hi guys, just wondering if anyone tried to remove the crankcase breather plug before?

my crankcase breather tube appears to be all clogged up and i cant get to remove it because of this metal clip that appears to be securing the plug.

im trying to clear the tube as my engine oil consumption seems to be quite high (500km and it's dry!) and ah chong said it could be a piston ring issue but couldnt come to a conclusion yet. (he asked me to monitor.. maybe a top overhaul is required =X)

i've read somewhere that a blocked crankcase breather can cause higher consumption of eo and also cause higher pressure in the the engine system hence that's why im trying 2 clear the tube..

U jux use a plier, grip d metal clip, then slide it down the tube. Then remove the plastic plug.

But wif such high EO consumption, i kinda agree wif ahchong. Try revving ur engine hard n see if got any smoke come out? If have, means piston ring gone liao.

i managed to removed the plug and unclogged the pipe but now i cant fit the plug back!!! the opening is too small!

im wondering if its safe to leave the crankcase breather unplugged and still operate the bike..

the smoke coming out from the exhaust during revving isnt consistant.. sometimes i have it sometimes i dont.. so its probably hard to tell until i really send it infor service.. =X

I think somehow my last post didnt appear.. anyway thanks naim for the tip on how to remove the plug! I've mananged to squeeze back the plug with some elbow grease..

And it turn out it's not a good idea to leave the crankcase unplugged as I read somewhere it may suck up random debris if the crankcase develops negative pressure!

chinhua that's good to hear! i think i have to send it back in to ah chong this weekend already.. the eo is drying up after 600km and now the engine also starts dying in heavy rain! had to push start on the expressway =c

Hi Sawfly, no problem just sharing but be prepare as changing valve seal will require to open the top part of the engine so is as good as top over haul parts is cheap but labour is expensive. By the way do you feel lost of power from before white smoke.

Now my next problem is engine die when choke is pull out and occasionally engine die when idle or rev.

Anyway guys, before i go down to shop, any idea whats wrong with my bike? Currently when riding with trottle opened (not wide open, ranging only) there isn't any sound apart from the usual chain sound. However upon closing the trottle and using the engine brake, there's this annoying metal noise that sounds like "chik chik chik chik". Its not a constant sound, very erratic. Any idea whats wrong? I'm hoping its just the chain slapping against the gearbox housing. My main concern is gearbox gone case :(

im mentally prepared to shell out the $$$ for overhaul already. i've just toke over an 3rd hand bike so i have no idea how abused it was.

speaking of lost of power i cant really tell except that when i switched to vpower last week for shell95 and after that this week back to shell 95 the lost of power is there. now i have problems trying 2 maintain the torque when im trapped in heavy traffic. prior to that i hvnt seen white smoke for at least 3 weeks since.

perhaps on a not so relevant note, somehow engine braking was suddenly very fast and too responsive when i let go of the throttle when using v power.

when your engine die during idle or rev could is it because ur engine not warmed up yet? i've experienced that when using driving centre bike 7am in the morning and its impossible to go far without stalling at 1/4 throttle. it gets better only after mild throttling to "warmup".

also i've nvr successfully used the choke before. the engine will die if i use the choke but i start fine everyday without it.

spark, im curious if u hear the same sound when you let go the throttle when bike is stationary/neutral?

i've problems trying to differentiate between the cam chain noise and the rattling of the exhaust.. of course im not too sure if my exhaust could be loose..

Nope. When i clutch in the sound becomes alot more muted. When i release clutch to engine brake the sound magnifies again. And when idling at stop no sound at all. And when maintain trottle or open trottle also no sound at all. Funny is might be somewhere is loose but when i check i cant find any leh. The sound appeared to be coming from seat or forward part of the area where engine is located. Could it be the clutch? When i open trottle wide i experience clutch-slip also

Hi Spark is the sound coming from the brakes?

Hmmm dont think so leh. Cause close trottle then have the sound

Seems you have more problems on your hand now, i do the the valve seal replacement i think 200+.

Engine die even after riding awhile, i am hoping just wash carburetor will solve the problem

how about the drivechain slack and wear? i cant think of anything except anything from the clutch or transmission already.

have you see how long the "chik chik chik" sound last and does the sound cycle? i hear a 4 second chik chik sound everytime which repeats 5-10seconds after the sound disappears when i am lane splitting.

Nt sure y sum ppl say no nd clean carb one. Even ahchong say so. Mine i clean myself. Then 2 mths ltr, i open up again to check and there were some stains. Used local fuel and nv put in any additive still like dat. So to me, every yr clean once shud be done. Imagine 5-6 yrs old nv open up b4 duno look like wat.

Btw carb oso tuning might be off, causing the problems u describe like engine dying off. Noise could be many things. I tink cam chain shudnt be so loud, n usually wen idling got. Cux when revving, the chain shud tighten. Try check ur chain slack 1st.

Hmm but now when my engine is idling there is sound. My mechanic i went to told me most likely would be the cam chain system. =S Anyway chain slackness i check on a fortnight basis. The chain are rather tight with not too much slackness. Also had a new chain idler roller.
