My AT bike was stolen few years back at Tampoi...i think u can forget abt recovering back ur bike in malaysia. Just start to proceed for the insurance claim & hope they could compensate u a good market value of ur bike. AT bike is in great demand in malaysia...especially in ipoh, can normally fetch up to 30-40k for 2nd hand AT bike

Ya, true, I too ride a A Twin, too afraid to leave it in malaysia as it is quite a hot item, especially in Phuket.

Cheers!

edouard,

Did you check with the JB town council whether the vehicle was towed away?

I had a most expensive lesson when I parked at an unofficial parking lot in Larkin bus station & had my bike towed away by town council in less than 10 minutes. Cost me RM 90.....

Wow 20K-40K is a lot of money, I'm sure you can have someone disappeared for that amount even in Spore.

If I'd known I'd have tried to register it in Malaysia and sell it there, I doubt the insurance will give me 5k after the mandatory 3month waiting.

Coppers at the station told me this month 2 or 3 BMW F650GS reported stolen in JB, they claim 80-90% chance of recovery, which sounds to me as either a lie or indication the cops are in on it. If you could solve 90% of motorcycle theft cases most of the thieves would be caught by now and we should all be able to leave our keys in the ignition.

I park along with 12 other local bikes none of them affected. If tow away the security ppl would have seen them (maybe). Can't believe they never see, always standing at front smoking and talkingcock.

Hey ed!!!

it me... fren of dave... gees sorry to hear your ride got nick at JB.. well mate..chances of recovery is extremely slim.. in malaysia.. AT is not that common.. high chance it will be dismantle and sold as parts..

As what BB mention...you may want to check with the town concil did they tow your bike... but if you mention you park with the rest and it still got nick..guess your bike was targetted.

how long did you leave your bike?

Only about 20 min. the guy pro, infact I think maybe 2 of them. parked with the nose downhill, even I weighing 95kg can barely reverse it up the hill.

bro did u see the security camera recording?

try checking with the police or town council near to "Extra" there

one of my fren also lost his Twin in JB near to Pelangi in less then 15 min

But luck was on his side as he found the bike at "extra" and have to pay compound of RM80

no luck here. They did say that the council does not generally tow Spore vehicles "due to the difficulty in locating the owners"-they say.

If the council checked in with the cops they would find a whole list of ppl looking for their vehicles!

Not sure what this says about the state of affairs there

Thanks for that,

By any chance anyone know of a way to keep my number? the LTA tells me I have to wait 1.5 year in case the bike turns up. NTUC say its out of their hands but actually once paid out the bike and everything connected to it belong to the insurance Co. I'm pretty sure they wont wait 1.5 year before cashing out COE. Any advice?

Stay away from JB. Hot spot for criminal activities.

Hit straight for the resorts if you are in Malaysia for touring.

Yeah, I would agree, except I have to come in to Pasir Gudang daily for work. Don't see myself coming across on a Honda C90, even if to spoil some low life's fun.

My ideal would be a KTM 950 but $$$. Might try and get an other twin, although after 3 years i'm ready for something different the @ is quite ideal for Malaysia roads, a touring bike might be good but pushing through check point quite a chore on the twin already.

I still feel that you ought to call the JB Town Council (MPJB) at +607-2282525. Just in case.

If you feel that the MPJB staff are incapable of towing big bikes, you obviously haven't seen them in action. I've seen them pull a Hayabusa to the end of the truck using just ropes. Crazy buggers!!!

Hi There,

I did call them as suggested earlier, but no dice. The other blow is that I can't retain the number for 18month! and then have to pay 1300 to transfer onto anything other than new bike!

bro, a stolen bike can never fetch anything more than RM10k. nobody is stupid enough to buy a bike without any paperwork for more than that money. i've seen 05/06 R1, CBR1000 selling for less than RM10k in the black market.

btw, sad to hear ur loss, i've had mine stolen a few months ago too & have some info regarding the thieves. (its a big syndicate operating from KL - JB)

bro grasscutter where is this 'black market' ? my fren recently had a 05 r1 stolen - (insurance claim aside) he easily lost 15k on 'market value' and his 7k worth of accessories. it was stolen in SINGAPORE no less!!!!

bikes stolen in singapore, i dont know how it is done to dispose off the bike. but i believe it will be ridden out into JB. the black market is in JB... operated by a big syndicate.

i actually got back my bike after paying a huge sum of ransom money to the syndicate (it was only 3 days ago i got it back) it was a very complicated thing to do. n now i have to repair it, gonna cost me thousands again.. sighs

bottom line is NEVER LEAVE UR BIKE UNATTENDED NOT EVEN FOR 1 MINUTE.

(mine got stolen in less than 3 minutes; and i was sitting just 6 feet away from my bike but separated by a wall of a fast food joint)

Yea.. dun ever leave ure bike in JB attended for even a minute. I lost my super 4 few days ago even after handle-locking the bike. Went away for less than 5 minutes and bike is gone when I came back. Bad thing is that I'm unable to claim insurance cause of third party only.
