Finally !!!! Alan Smith is signed!!!!!! Think it was last year I had thought how wonderful it would be for NUFC to sign him when he always save Man U all the blushes by scoring the winner or equalised the games as a sub.

At an age of 26, think it really is a great buy for NUFC since he's going to get to his peak period. Just hope he stays injury free.

Anyway, through the pix, is he wearing Bartons Jersey number? Tot Barton is wearing 7.

He using 17

Hahaha... I c... maybe the training tee the number 1 fall off or havent make his training tee yet. BTW, besides playing up front, Smith plays centre, right or left of midfield?

Anywayz..... with so much firepopwer up front, I hope, they sell Ameobi and get more defenders.

Lols...

Yeap beside playing upfront he can playe any side of the midfield...So far i think he only played to his best upfront during his leeds days...

If only got other club wants ameobi...i think Big sam will let him go already...

Btw hope they can relish this moment again!

As well as securing the Alan Smith deal on Friday, Newcastle have completed the free transfer signing of Claudio Roberto da Silva - better known as Cacapa (pictured above).

The 31 year-old Brazilian-born defender was a free agent after leaving Lyon at the end of last season and doesn't require a work permit as he holds a French passport.

He's penned a two-year deal at SJP (with the option of a third) and has been assigned the vacant number six shirt.

Cacapa played for Atletico Mineiro in his native Brazil between 1997 and 2000. Arriving at Lyon on a six month loan in 2001, he impressed and a permanent £4m deal was then concluded.

Although most of his outings in the French league came as a central defender, he did also make some appearances at right back.

At one time Captain of Lyon, Cacapa featured in only six league games last season and was regularly an unused substitute, leading to claims he was destined to move on to PSG - where his former boss Paul Le Guen was coach.

Confirming his decision to leave Lyon, he told the French sports paper L'Equipe earlier this year that:

"I have given it a lot of thought and even if it's a difficult decision, I decided it was time to leave and find new ambitions.

"I'm 31, I hope to play for three or four more seasons, preferably in Europe, and I hope that my French citizenship will help me.

More transfers...

Newcastle United have signed Claudio Cacapa and have also agreed a deal for Villarreal full-back Jose Enrique.

Brazilian defender Cacapa has spent the past few days discussing terms with The Magpies after leaving Lyon at the end of last season.

He has passed a medical at St James' Park and has now signed a two-year contract with the option of a third season.

And Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has continued to bolster his defence by setting up a deal for Spain Under 21 international Enrique.

Villarreal have confirmed on their website that terms have been agreed for Enrique to move to Tyneside.

The Spanish club have not disclosed the fee, but reports suggest Newcastle have paid 6million euros (£4million) for the youngster.

Enrique only joined the Yellow Submarines last season, but is set to accept a five-year contract with The Magpies.

Allardyce, who also signed Alan Smith from Manchester United on Friday, had previously strengthened the defence with the acquisition of Czech Republic international David Rozehnal from Paris Saint Germain.

From Wiki;

José Enrique Sánchez DÃ*az aka José Enrique (born 23 January 1986 in Valencia, Spain) is a Spanish football player who currently plays for Newcastle United F.C. of the English Premier League. His usual position is a Left Back. He started his footballing career at Levante and spend a season on loan to Celta de Vigo. José was signed by Villarreal CF in 2006 for a fee of €? after eye-catching performances on loan at Celta de Vigo. However he only spent a single season at Villarreal CF before moving to Newcastle for a fee of around €6,000,000.

Newcastle United are understood to be closing in on the signature of Sevilla defender Ivica Dragutinovic.

The Magpies and Manchester City have both made contact, but it's Sam Allardyce who looks like winning the race to land the imposing stopper.

Sevilla have agreed to let Dragutinovic leave and a deal close to £2.5million is set to be agreed.

Newcastle have offered the centre-half, who can also play on the left, a three-year contract to move to St James' Park and the Serbian is keen on the switch.

"This is the financial opportunity of my life and do not want to reject it," Dragutinovic said.

Sevilla have already moved to sign Dragutinovic's replacement in the shape of Colombian Aquivaldo Mosquera, who has arrived from Mexican champions Pachuca.

Since we got someone from Villareal, shouldn't we look at Riquelme as well? Heh heh heh...I think he's going rather cheap, and he's just back from Boca from loan.

Anyway I've only been to one fan club outing...was some live telecast of a newcastle match that was broadcast on the big screen at orchard lido.

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is excited to have landed Spanish Under-21 left-back Jose Enrique Sanchez Diaz after being turned down by Leighton Baines.

Enrique will join from Villarreal for a £4.2m fee, and Allardyce has indicated that they could go back for Serbian defender Ivica Dragutinovic.
