for wat i heard of is running thru all gears... max 80km/h... else the "dunno wat" will not set in correctly and in the future, your bike will eat petrol like no one's business...

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Running In means getting ur piston seasoned. I ran in my brand new kawasaki at 500km. I dont know abt urs but should be relatively the same. best is to call up Honda agent.

Q:How do i run in the bike if i changed piston/piston rings?

A:Always use a good semi syn 2t to run in. Dont exceed 8-9krpm for the first 100km and dont use excessive engine braking. After 100km, you can bring the rpm up but please do not drag the rpm above 8-9k rpm for prolonged periods of time. 500km later, you can do whatever you want to it ^^

Q:How do i run in the bike if i changed piston/piston rings AND block (top overhaul)?

A:Always use a good semi syn 2t to run in. Dont exceed 8-9krpm for the first 300-500km and dont use excessive engine braking. After that, you can bring the rpm up but please do not drag the rpm above 8-9k for prolonged periods of time. 600-800km later, you can do whatever you want to it. Basically 2strokers dont need to run in that much. This is the 'slow' and 'safe' method to run in. Even so, theres no need to run in until 1000-2000km. But of course, there are many methods to do it, just choose one you feel is the best.

It does not make sense that the fuel consumption has gone worse... unless the cylinder bore has been worn out too much for the new piston.

What was the reason for changing the piston? Was it an oversized piston which requires the cyinder to be rebored to a bigger diameter? Two strokers tend to destroy their own piston and cylinder walls over time, especially when cheap 2T lubricants are used.

With today's technology and precision engineering, slow run ins are a thing of the past. Nowadays people go for hard break in.

I take my new bikes to the track to run them in. Hard accelerations and decelarations on 3rd, 4th and top gear, even up to the redline. The key here is to use high rpms AND high gears to load the piston and the rings to seat them.

After about 100 km of track riding, change out the oil and the bike is run in already.

due to the riding style u needed to adopt for the running in process compare to the normal riding style..

the other reason is the rings haven set properly, leading to some mixture escape thru the rings..

in a way right.. but also depends on the temperature.. try not to get the bike hot.. avoid traffic jam.. if want the safe run in basically just dont drag above 6k if want on and off abit can.. but not for long time..

yap, i agree to u. now adays people go for the hard break-in method as it's faster and so-called better power. i also does the hard run in.. i only run in 2 full tank and ready to whack.. hees.. :cheeky:
