hi all,

 

i am in the midst of shortlisting bikes for consideration in view of the final upgrade.

 

quick questions:

 

a) are there new ATs being sold firsthand? i know boon siew doesnt carry it... they were trying to push me the vara 125!

 

b) if yes, which shop can i find this? and does anyone know the latest machine price?

 

c) re maintenance, is it easily serviced by just about any workshop or do we have to go to specific ones?

 

d) are parts readily available?

 

e) very subjective qn but still worth a shot nevertheless... how does it compare with the vara 1k, and other similar bikes - gs, ktm, tenere, etc, other than the obvious diff engine cc?

a- yes stopped in 2003, the newwest model u can find are FW plate I think... and COE expiring in 2013

b- i guess the current market price should be around 10k+ for a nice one, well maintained

c- in singapore, there are some really good mechanics for this bike

d- if you want to change the front fork it might difficult to find, however for all "small" parts, they are more than available (and too pricey)

e- AT is a dynosaur compare to those ones... old fashion kind, rough mechanics with a couple of perfectly identified issues, but only a tsunamy can stop it! bullet proof is a light word ;-)

I have already checked ard the ATs, Transalps and Varas, and got meself a Vara after much consideration.

Hi Guys....

 

I am Haresh

I just got myself a FT plate AT 2 mths ago.

I have a question. I hear a ticking sound whenever i crank start the bike.

Sometimes ticking is soft sometimes are loud. Upon checking I found the sound is coming from the fuel pump.

Is this common in an AT or like other bikes its wear and tear

 

Pls advice.

The ticking sound is normal. I assume you are using the mitsubishi pump?

Hi guys,

Just wana share my latest update on my Africa twin mod.

 

Recently my voltage charging was not stable, its intermittently low at 12.6V and sometimes it goes up to 13-14V with turn on of lights or horning. So i have decided that my rectifier needs a replacement(And not the OEM rectifier which gets hot and burns out quite easily)....so i went to ebay and bought myself a aftermarket MOSFET rectifier FH012AA. It cost about $170 plus shipment from EBAY.

 

Its pretty much an easy replacement, needed some wire stripping and crimping of wires and thats about it and it by-passes the existing OEM connector(OEM connector routes back to starter relay and then to the battery) and connects straight to the battery instead....so any corrosion over the starter relay would not affect the charging system.

 

Watch area is the alternator 3 phase wiring (3 yellow wires) its quite hot so try not to tape all three wires together. I have used wire tubes to separate the individual wires.

 

Charging stability is back....hovers at 14.6 v with no lights....14.3v with lights.

 

Try goggling it for reviews. I hope i don't have to change any rectifier anymore for at least the next 5 years.
