My YBR125 has a problem with batteries. After a very long diagnosis, I finally discovered it's due to the IU.

With the IU connected, the battery (freshly charged) cannot last more than 2 days. This happens even if I ride the bike everyday.

With the IU disconnected, the battery has lasted over two weeks without any problems.

I tested that the IU only drains 0.46mA when the bike is off. Note that it's 0.46mA, not 0.46A.

The bike doesn't draw any current without the IU.

Does this mean I got a poor battery? Are there batteries that cannot sustain current drawn continuously, even if it's a small current?

try connecting the IU to the ignition, instead of durectly to the battery, so that it is only turned on when you start the bike.

This will save your power. hope it helps!

I suspect:

Our IU will switch from sleep mode/standby mode to active mode when it detected a right signal from an antenna (i.e. ERP gantry antenna, car park gantry antenna). When the IU is in active mode, it will draw more current from the bike/car comparing to sleep mode/standby.

How I found out:

My house car park has a few wireless CCTV cameras installed by car owners to monitor their car for various reasons. Whenever my car drove past those CCTVs, if my cashcard has less than $5/$4 the IU will comes alive and beep annoyingly. Those stray signals of wireless CCTV camera woke up my IU.

The location that you park your bike may have some stray signals that constantly keep your IU in active mode thus draining your battery at an unusual rate. As suggested by bro w00t, connect the IU to a switched power source will prevent the IU from draining your battery when you switch off the ignition.

This is one of the possibilities, don’t flame me for complicating the matter… hehe :thirsty:

It is a possibility. I find it hard to believe that a battery can be drained by 0.46 mA so easily. The battery is now still okay after a month.

I have another bike whose IU drain 0.43 mA and is still okay after a month of inactivity. It was parked in another location, though.

I have disconnected both IUs for the time being -- will reconnect them back when I need to pass through the gantries. The long term solution will be to connect them to a switched power source. It's unfortunate that IUs are connected to the battery directly because it's much easier to do so.

Is tapping on the horn wires good enough? (Enough current to update the card?)

the horn has a 10amp fuse, which means the wiring shld be able to take any current less than 10amp. connect IU there shld be safe.

Do take note for some bikes' horn. When the ignition is on, the horn's +ve is connected. for such configuration, yes, u can connect your IU there. the only bike i know of with such configuration is Pulsar.

else, u shld just tap from any fuse from the fuse box. For YBR, there is only a main fuse. so just tap from the main fuse.

No more regrets.

Does your battery current rectify back once you start your engine? If not better check ur rectifier and magnetic coil liao.
