Hi guys, im riding SP and recently every morning when i go down and see my bike i can see one small pool of liquid near my side stand, no smell perhaps due to exposed to air for too long. And im not really sure if it's EO leaking.

Last 2 days I ride I can hear like my pistons are having a louder noise than usual, dunno izit im thinking too much but ride bike long enuff im sure we can feel the slightest bit of difference if there is something wrong. So if EO is leaking, how would it affect my engine and more importantly how to check haha

CoZ i went to the right side of my engine, tried to twist open the cap but cant manage to open it lol

It can be residual chain lube lubricant that is dripping from the front sprocket cover area. That area always has a build up of gunk flung off by the chain. If you have recently lubed your chain and have never opened up the sprocket cover to clean out the gunk accumulated there... that could be the problem.

Or...

there is really an oil leak from the gear shift shaft seal at the engine housing.

The engine oil in your bike acts as a lubricant and a medium of heat transfer for the engine. Not enough engine means worn out and burnt parts... you better use a plier or whatever to open up the oil filler cap at the engine and have a look.

If you don't pay attention to the oil level just like the coolant level.... it can be a very costly mistake.

oh ok got it, thanks for the wonderful information. Later on i'll go twist it open no matter wat. Yup, I don't wish to end up paying more for spoilt parts especially if I need to do a full overhaul

you check EO level either by a window, or a dipstick. I believe you have a dipstick.

Before starting your bike in the morning, remove the EO filler cap, and wipe off the EO on the stick. there should be some grooved markings to indicate EO level. straighten your bike by sitting on it, and dip the dipstick back into the filler hole. take it out, and see the oil level in comparison with the grooves.

if its too low, then top it up slowly. you dont want to overfill your bike.

the bike has to be straight up to see the eo level thru the window. put on sidestand, cant see anything.

The 3 so called black dots you are seeing are actually the holes in the reflector plate. These holes allow the engine oil to flow into the sight glass.

If you don't have the silver reflector plate with the 3 holes in the sight glass... the darkness within the engine crankcase will mislead you to thinking the crankcase is full of oil.

You check oil level with the engine warm. Start the bike and let the oil circulate around for at least 3 minutes. Shut down and wait a minute at least then check the oil level.

And you cannot play kiasuism with the engine oil level... putting more will harm the engine. Stick to the correct level.

Overfilling of the crankcase will result in oil fumes and oil being pumped via the crankcase breather to the air filter box. That will cause the bike to belch blue smoke and at worst... clog up the air filter causing the bike to run too rich and resulting in poor fuel consumption and loss of power.

If you check it cold, like after overnight... all the oil would have flowed back to the crankcase from the parts they have been coating.... giving you a false full reading.

I usually check my bike cold in the mornings before going to work. there is a difference between cheking at warm, as you described, and cold. that is cold shows the EO level at full while warm shows the EO level between min and max.

ive got a question. dont laugh now.

my bike has 3 level of EO that they reccomend filling. 2.8L, 2.6L and 2.4L

some dude who likes to joke alot with me told me that 2.8L is for winter, 2.6 is for autumn and 2.4 is for summer. therefore with the tropical weather in singapore, its actually fine to fill the bike with 2 bottles and a half of EO?

that sounds so wrong somehow. since printed on the side of the crankcase next to the window was 2.8L embossed clearly.

so do i fill the bike with 2.8L of EO or 2.4?

you have a big bike...it needs 2.8L..

yeah next time you do a change fill 2L..and check not enough fill some more until full....

some bikes have oil filter...your manual will tell you

when you change EO. and filter..the EO used will be more than when the oil filter is not changed. Most recommendation is that change of oil filter for every 2 EO changes. thats may be the reason you have 2 qty of EO.

the proper time to check EO is when Engine is cold...that is where most of the EO is in Crank.Check it where bike is level..best get someone sit and on it..or you bend over to retrieve dipstick to check. with sight glass get a friend to check it.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

Regardless of what bike you ride,

Highest reading (2.8L in this case): Oil to be poured in when engine is overhauled

Middle reading (2.6L in this case): Oil to be poured in when doing oil change with oil filter

Lower reading (2.4L in this case): Oil to be poured in when doing oil change without oil filter

Hope this helps!

Technically,

we measure oil capacity by draining the oil and measuring the volume.

If not enough, top up and pour back into the engine.

usually dependant on milleage. it varies from bike to bike.

best to consult your manufacturer's user manual.

usually its every 5000km or 3 months, whichever comes sooner.

the to check EO for bikes, its usually on the RHS engine casing. if your bike uses the EO window, then check EO level from there. Or you might use a dipstick instead.

what u mean 3 digit number on the left? haha

Mileage is the one that is in the center of ur speedometer.

For me i usually change EO every 3000km.

i mean the clock that can be reset it to all zero.

how do we see 3000km?

not the mileage one!

like something 300(0-9)

there is a number when you ride, the number will move from 0-9 one.

bro, the 0-9 u dont refer to tt.. i know u are refering to the gauge below the mileage meter.. which have a digit xxxxx(0-9) the 0-9 is referring the distance u are clocking in meters.. correct me if im wrong..

That is the resettable trip meter.

The odometer is the one that clocks your distance travelled since day one as long as your speedometer is connected and working.

The white drum with black numbers of the odometer and trip meter measures tenths of a kilometer ie 100 metres.

All the rest of the white numbers on black drums tell you the total distance travelled in kilometres.

:)

Your resettable trip meter will only show you up to 999.9 km before it goes back to 000.00.

Only the odometer can do that coz it can read up to 99,999.9km.

Haha bro, if you wan to know when to change EO, change it now, then see ur mileage at the Odometer, add 3000km and that's the time for your next EO change haha
