Rusty Helmet D-Rings, what to do?

not only i have this problem on budget-brand OF helmets, even my nolan FF suffered the same fate. i always air my helmets after riding in the rain... but still... sigh.

 

is there a shop which do replacement of the D-ring professionally? i dont think can DIY cos the straps are heavily stitched.

if its rust on the D- ring of your strap, maybe u can try using autosol just to remove the rust but make sure don let the autosol touch your strap cos it will stick onto the fabric of the strap.

Some good DIY shops have it, won't be cheap.

 

One squeeze tube puts you off by like US$8-10 dollars.

 

There are some rust removers sold in big tumblers at lower rates, but these are not your choice of concentrated, remove rust and protect surface solvents.

Shop beside LAB got change the D rings. Even helmet cushions also the can do up 4 u.

those rust remover liquids are acids, right? wouldn't it corrode the straps, which is made of nylon.

the rust on the D-rings usually starts in the 'hidden' area under the loop of the strap. there's no way to reach it unless the strap is cut or de-stitched.
