U need a race license from SMSA.

Bike is your own bike paid out of your own pocket.

You need at least a Snell/Dot Approved Helmet, Suit, Gloves, Boots.

Do u need money for racing ? No; don't need. You need tonnes of cold hard cash to race. :goodluck:

Over here in Singapore where the superbike racing scene and sponsorship opportunities are sizeably small as compared to other bigger countries, the whole idea of beginning racing usually goes down this way, beginning to end:

1. Bike

Any kind, but if you are wanting to race in a specific category (eg) underbone races, smaller CC category, to the fully-fledged Johor Clubman and Malaysian Super Series for the big sport racebikes**, you have to think about what kind of bike to buy.

2. Gear

Leathers provide the rider more abrasion protection than armoured jackets and jeans. And it's no surprise that you don't see racers around the world in full leather protective gear! Definitely a compulsory investment for those who are serious in this sport.

3. Lotsa practice

This stage is where most of us are in, whether it's track junkies wanting to learn how to corner, want to go faster, or have been contemplating taking up racing. It may take months, or it may take years...it's like going to school. Hope you get the gist :p

4. Bike upgrades, converting it into a racebike.

Race fairings, optional accessories and performance add-ons if one's needs aren't enough, etc...

5. Practice some more...

6. Participate in small races when one feels confident to do so.

7. Practice some more...

8. Participate in fully sanctioned races.

I thank my sources for providing me bits and pieces of the information above and the accuracy of the information above may vary though.

** as of the time of writing, Clubman and MSS caters to smaller category racebikes and underbones as well, but I hear that the latter is phasing out the lower CC category races pretty soon (can anyone confirm this?)
