Perhaps I can share a little about my European stay. I was stationed in Schweinfurt im middle Deutschland for a few days this year. During the weekend, I drove Southwards to Friedrichshafen and Konstanz to meet a friend. On the way there, fuel costs 1.5Euro/Litre which was slightly more than SGD$3/L. This proved to be much of a toll on my limited Euro as I refrain from accumulating credit card debts. He then goes to explain about the relationship between Austria and Germany. Being an expert in South East Asian cultures, he compared these 2 European neighbours to Singapore and JB in the aspect of consumers' petrol. Germans sometimes cross the border which have since been dissolved with the EU pact to pump the 1.2Euro/Litre petrol in Austria when it's convenient. The SGD$0.6/Litre of savings proved substantial for Germans who stay in Friedrichshafen just close to the border. But they do not go into extends of pumping Austrian fuel which anatomically is the same or even buy a bigger fuel tank at the expense of safety to pump more Austrian petrol. Sad to say... Singaporeans do.

Making the effort to cross the border every now and then even though it's only 25% of the tank, some even tamper with the gauge and suffer legal woes for that little savings. And many Singaporeans call this savings. But I think to a certain extend, scrooge. A car is never a need in Singapore unless you need it for work which companies subsidize. In the first place, you shouldn't even have gotten the car since you cannot afford to pay the fuel. I'm sorry for my bluntness, but I really hope you see the picture I am illustrating with good intentions.

A simple belief. If you need to risk to save, that's stingy. Savings should never carry an adverse price.

means u like european style but not asian/singaporean style ? that seems to be the conclusion.

whoa how come this racially biased comment? u mean no such ppl are of eurasian, caucasian, malay, indian, african, latin american descent?

Hi, I am speaking from my experience in this industry. But it is disputable and I'm open to receiving disagreements.

Yes, you hit spot on. Not only the driving culture on the German highway proved to be superior compared to Singapore and the Malaysian NSHW, the way how people deal with vehicles and people are far more humane than how people do it here. But this is speaking from a general point of view. Of course, specifically, we do have bad drivers in Europe and good drivers in Singapore and Malaysia. But sadly, I don't find this group substantial enough to represent our culture.

Naturally, you are free to contest my claims.

Come on, to share their country's petrol is alreadi making us feel lousy yet some ppl can do the above tactic?

I have seen a Honda fit.

B4 i drove in the petrol station, he have alreadi started pumping.

When i start topping up till finish, this guy still filling up + opening his car boot to do " CPR heart attack " . I paid up, then send my car in for a wash.

Juz imagine, the wash took ard 20 mins. HE STILL HAVE NOT FINISH FILLING!

When i reverse my car to dry, then he finish pumping n paid up.

today i just saw a malaysian registered plate doing some jacking up of cars with wooden planks provided by the petrol station.

good service. but it's very obvious that they patronise the petrol station because of the free wooden plank provided.
