Stayed in Betong City Plaza Hotel (new). Located alongside Sri Betong Hotel. Wkday RM72 or Baht690. Wkends RM109 or Baht1030. Obviously i chose to pay in baht. :cheeky: They have rms at old bldg too at much lower rate.

Other hotels i know would not discount their rates if pay in Baht. They would simply convert RM1=10Baht.

with so many other optional roads to ride, Why would u wanna risk riding from hatyai-yala-betong? This place is not called the restive south for no reason.

Roadside bombs are common...u wanna play rusky roulette with your life? The bombs could be in the town or even by the country side...and if happened to be following a military convoy, the risk just went up by 1000%!

I have the most harrowing 3km ride, following a long convoy of humvees, trucks with soldeiers, armour vehicles with 60mm guns etc...the road is too narrow and windy to overtake. Later I fund out that this convoy was on a massive operation to follow up on a roadside bombing that killed a couple fo soldiers ona humvee.

hai there, would update u the route asap.......

I tried that route around april after phuket bike week.... all the other riders told us to make one big round to betong but we insist that we want to try yala route. met one biker who was from yala and he told us it was safe to ride on that route but ensure the ride is before 1600hrs. the scenery surrounding the area was superb but the corners near the mountains were sharp and tiring............. met 4 spore bikers going the opposite way (from betong to hatyai).... ride lasts 4 5 hrs

Back from Betong last sun. Stayed at Hello hotel b4 the Mongkollit tunnel @THB760. Saw 3 M'sia bikes in Betong on Sat at Garden View hotel when going to O2 disco. Compared to my last visit on dec 07, things seems to be a bit more expensive now. Now then found out that no other Thai sim card can work in Betong other than the ones bought in Betong itself :faint:.

haha.. very interesting indeed.... in 2006 (i think), I'd stayed in Betong with another 3 other Frds (3 FJRs & 1 CBR1000), and then rode from Betong to HY - then Phuket for the Songkran... did we happend to meet??

the ride fr Betong to HY is scenic, lots of curves, seems a little like MHS, but easily set u back by 5 hours or more, very tiring as U travel low speed, keep cornering non-stop....:faint:

left betong early morning like 8am, reach Sarasin Bridge (Phuket) ard 6pm :faint::faint:

and Yes, there's a "5-Star" hotel just before the tunnel... RM140 per nite.... haha... shucks, stayed there last year when it first opened.... should have went to Garden View, only half the price..... :dot:

No. Just return the white import form when you exit Betong.
