My headcowl has a slot just below the headlight so I wired a white LED panel, those use in car cabin type, to my pilot light.

So when I ride, the headlight is still on, and so is the LED. I have gone for inspection with it, there is no problem. I have rode next to TPs, and I'm sure he saw my LED light, also no problem.

i did that for safety and not for vanity because the LEDs high intensity make it more visible in the day than the halogen headlight. Having said that, it doesn't mean that it is not necessary to turn on your headlight as that would mean you are not riding with headlight on, and that would be pushing your luck.

:)

I guess you've been lucky so far. TP do not actually engage in these type of activity. TPs are more for road safety. ROVs/LTAs are the ones that have been empowered for any illegal vehecal mods.

With more cars having DRLs, bikes will soon be invisible once more.

I wonder what's the next step in making bikes more visible?

Glowing fairings?

Glowing Fairings hahah that would be a spectacular sight. I wonder if "Glow in the Dark" Stickers can be considered illegal.

Yeah. I was actually thinking of doing that kinda mod to my headlights recently. It would add to the bling/vanity factor, as well as increase on-road visibility of my bike to cagers, no doubt.

Thing is, I've been putting it off because an LED strip attached to any "gap" in between the headlight and cowling/fairing looks erm... cheap, IMO. No disrespect intended. Just something I feel.

Can we have some pics of your mod here, if you don't mind?

I'm not ruling out doing that "slot in". It's just I would prefer to crack open my sealed headlights and mod it within, but am worried about the watertight integrity after that. :p

it is only legal for the Audi A5 which has that LEDs from the factory.

I believe so. Looks nice, when it's done internally, and not pasted on/between like most cars I've seen on the road.

Maybe I can start a new trend eh? Fabricate some translucent fairings and then light it up from within.

Idea.... hmm..... :p

Just for you

Ahh... good, good. Nicely done.

I thought they would be squeezed in between the headlights and cowling to imitate the Audi look. But I think you've done it better. Squeezing a strip of lights at the rim of the headlights seems like a cop out. Better to find a better and more fitting placement for it. Yours does the job.

With this, we can actually get it painted with translucent colors... then use LEDs on the inside of the fairing for desired effect!!

I did that in 2007, so I have reasons to believe Audi copied my idea

Back then, LEDs in strips were not common, so when I saw these LED panels selling at $10/pc at the Toyogo plastic shop in Toa Payoh, I bought a couple of them to play around. I even did one on my friend's TDM900. The TDM900 has a pilot light above the headlight, so this LED panel fitted very nicely inside, and it looked stock.

Now, LEDs come in all colors, shapes and sizes, make mod much easier. Just for fun, I replaced my front signal lights with LED strips pasted on the handguards. It's very steathy until the signal light is activated but I'm sure that's very illegal.
