Hey Alex..

Wat hapen to your Spirit? I used to knoe u as a person who dont give a damn which class/cat they put u, still u race..

As i can recalled, u joined MSS (250cc) back in 2006 after just 1 track day ride at Sepang.. Dat is pretty amazing spirit u and amba had.. Not many ppl wud do dat.. Both of u ride up all the way from sg just to race.. Now i never see anyone ride up to race in MSS.. I admired the sportsmanship you and amba showed back then.. I was just a pit boy to some racer back then..

Here wat i knoe.. As long as you have raced before in Johor/Sepang, you will be racing in the Open category the year after.. Ive seen Open category rider much much slower than the Novice but still they are in Open cat.. Some even get lapped by the front runner.. My guess is they just dont give a damn and continue to enjoy each race they participate in.. And over few rounds, they do eventually improved their lap times.. I believe thats shud be everyone main focus.. Improving lap times.. NOT PODIUMS..

As Hart had mentioned, Rajini used to race in KIPS 150 in 2007.. Last year Ranjini enrolled in Novice but SIC put him in Open class although he never ride a 600cc prior to the race weekend..

Another thing that many might not aware.. The NOVICE category are actually open to ONLY Malaysian holding AAM license.. Back then since they started introducing Novice category, the malaysian will vote, to allow or not to allow any foreign novice, if any.. I believe, Milton Poh go thru this when he started racing in Novice cat.. To simplify, if there is around 6 Malaysian Novice, then 2 or 3 foreign Novice, the Malaysian Novice will vote to allow the Foreign Novice to race in Novice Cat or Open Cat.. Ive seen this vote in 2006..

So, in 2007 when i decided to race, myself and Hart prepared to be voted out but back then they dont have 6 novice in SbK so i guess we're quite lucky.. But they still do a check with Johor and SMSA.. Especially if you stand on the TOP of the Podium.. I was informed that SIC/AAM did a check on my racing background..

Spidey,

Ive seen you ride the R6 and i personally think you wud not have problem doin below 1:14 in your 1st race.. You can still try to race in Novice but i wud not advise u to do dat.. Just be urself with ur good spirit/sportmanship and join the race.. And PLEASE dont overhaul ur engine anymore at Concorde Inn :faint:

Yup we were young and in high spirits and made the mad decision to race in sepang after just one track day. Seriously we tot we were crazy too. We went racing there bcos there was no hope of racing in pg in our class. Things were pretty good then for the 1st year. But went downhill the year after. Probs went on for 2 years and i decided i need to go for the 600. Was in low spirits then and very much wanted results. Going for novice in the 600 is what i needed to regain some confidence in myself. And i really dun like to overhual the damn engine in concorde inn. I had no choice so i made up my mind that 600 is the way to go. I rather ride then do the bike these days. Now my 600 upgarded just the suspensions but still need tuning on it.

RIDE TO THE LIMIT OF YR BIKE!

Nope.. Im pretty sure there are ppl doin 1:16.. And im pretty sure u werent be last.. Infact i may be wrong.. u may even do below 12 if u dont mess around too much with ur bike and just keep tailing/attacking #69, #54, #95, #74, #71, #72.. All those boyz will be targeting below 10 this year.. THEY WILL get to that.. JUST Brake in 150 and FOLLOW them.. :p

there were at least 2 riders who did 1.15-1.16s and regular podium faces who set fastest laps in the Aprilia Cup racing in novice supersport. and even they were not able to translate their speed from 250s to 600s. the categorisation has flaws anyway and doesn't seem to apply to everyone... there were some who got away as most of us know.

i like that spirit of fighting against all odds; but the fighting spirit dies off when you enter an unlevel playing ground 300km away costing thousands of dollars and you're struggling for results or even enjoying yourself. spidey has gone thru all that and i can understand it's not easy.

just my two cents, if i may.

Some questions:

There were many other riders that WERE able to translate their speed from 2 strokes to 4s, contrary to what you said, so what about them? Should only those that ARE able to translate their speed be in expert and those that cannot be in novice? Who is going to make this call and will it be dependent on lap times, race wins, podiums…etc??? It would be ridiculously complicated if it were like that.

If you are fast, you will be fast whether the bike be a Busa, R1, DRZ, 125z. It just all depends on how quick you can learn how to ride it. If you take too long, then you need more practice so get out there.

Let me tell you, it's the rider. Whoever says that 250 riders coming up to 600s (or other similar situations) should be in Novice because it's hard to translate their speed to a different bike is talking crap.

So, if you one of those that take longer to learn, you go to Novice? How do you quantify this? Gut feeling? Honesty? Lap times? In the end it again becomes ridiculously complicated since every entry will be on a case by case basis.

Yeah, there are some who got away. So who wants to be the next person to "get away with it" and race under a dark cloud of suspicion & doubt? Be my guest.

Level Playing Fields?

There are many other people that have gone through what spidey (not taking anything away from Spidey) in worse categories. You think 250s/supersport is unfair? Try Superbike where there are NO RULES, going up against HRC spec custom built 190 bhp fireblades, the best of Italian sporting twins in various guises and full on race teams before you talk about unlevel playing fields. Or even Asia Pacific where you full pro teams and blueprinted race bikes? Your fellow Singapore superbikers in the past MSS seasons were giving away at least 20-30 bhp to the top 7-8 bikes, but still managed to get inside the top 7 every now and then.

Looks like whoever thinks this way better give up racing altogether, or go into smaller categories instead of going up. It’s just going to get worse and more complaining will follow.

Do any of the superbikers complain about that and say it’s unfair and wants to stay in the novice category? No, they suck it up, shut up and ride and try their best to show that THE RIDER can make a difference, voicing their opinions on fairness when they can sensibly, instead of looking for ways to get into an easier grid. Or if they can’t afford it, just stop racing until you can.

You talk about not enjoying racing because of the struggling for results. To me, that is the fatal flaw, because those following this path are expecting results and dont enjoy yourself when you dont get them. Go on like this and you will make enemies out of friends and ruin your life since everything becomes so serious.

Racing is supposed to be FUN. I stopped because I started losing friends, destroying myself and knew that I was not good enough to make up the difference with what I had to race with.

All of us were much closer when it was just trackdays, which is where I'll be for now - lost too many friends already because it became too damn serious.

But that aint an excuse for not playing by the rules!

No point force upgrading a rider to Open Category when his/her performance is not there yet.

If every rider based on 1 yr racing experience goes to open, then we should have at least 20 "EXPERIENCED" local riders ready to take part in Asian GP.

But, still have to follow BLACK AND WHITE RULES. Can anyone with relevant info post this here?

MSS is still a Club level event with international competitors, not an international event.

With such limited practice and qualifying times, putting both Novice and Open Category on same grid, why argue so much about taking part in Open Cat.

Want to know what is Open Cat, go to Asian GP.

Amba, sorry buddy but you are way off.

If they do not have rules to force people out of novice, can you imagine how big the novice category would be? And then the "new" novices will complain that the "senior novices" are too fast. It was never about performance, look at the SUperbike category and you can see that there are many novices that are faster than a whole bunch of experts.

The novice category is to cater for new racers, in their first year, that's it. It is not a class for slower riders and once done with the first year, you go to expert regardless. IT IS A YEAR TO FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH RACING AT CLUB LEVEL WITH OTHERS OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCE, NOT A CLASS FOR SLOWER RIDERS - I CAN GUARANTEE THIS DEFINITION.

We definitely do have at least 20 open category riders in Singapore, but what does going to Asia Pac have to do with this? Going to Asia Pac is by choice, so if no one wants to, you cant force them, unlike our novice/expert discussion. But we do have them although only handful can qualify in reality.

If you are referring to race license classes then you argument needs to be taken elsewhere. We dont have a classed system like Japan/Australia that keeps tabs on a rider's experience and results and have clear rules on what constitutes an upgrade of class. Here, we dont have them and thats a question to SMSA.

The reason why we are arguing about this is because what is being proposed here contrdicts the existence of the novice category by definition.

The arguments are still here because some people are very focused on RESULTS, see my post above on this.

If you ask me, Asian GP is the fairest playing field in terms of machines compared to MSS. They have proper scrutineering etc.... it's just that their riders are just WAY TOOOOOOO FAASSSTTTTT!!

Ya good point. Well i remember someone asked Y are Singaporeans trying to stop fellow singaporeans in bringing glory to the country. Till now i dun have an answer.

If you think that we are trying to hold you back from bringing Supersport novice glory to Singapore, think about the real 1st timers in 600s and the chance you are denying them, of which you already had and how your decision will be used when another rider wants to stay in novice in the future.

It's going to screw up the whole system.

We all know alot of people "got away with it" and how some are saying to "wait for someone to protest".

Why wait for someone to protest?

Tell you what, you pushed me into a corner: For the sake of the real novices out there, I WILL PROTEST AGAINST YOU AND ANYONE ELSE I KNOW OF.

You want to bring glory to Singapore - do it right and not on a technicality.

You're a friend, but I'm not about to condone something I know is wrong all becuase you are.

Hate me all you want, I tried explaining it but you seem to not understand.

Hartholomew.

Ok this is a never ending argument. Can be a debate subject already.

Anyway i will play by the rules thats y i asked if i am qualified to be in novice.

I cannot stop anyone that want to protest but if the rules states that i can

be in novice i will join it. I have been in biketrial competition in my younger

days and if u are not skillful enough to get to the top few places in the

competition u wun be upgraded to expert class. I even went for international

comps in japan. Everyone have a different view of what a novice should be,

in my case its for those whose not up to speed. Scenario is, U can ride for many

years, Do u think u can be fast just with the amount of experience? Once u

proven yourself to be fast enough, only then its fair that u will be upgraded to

expert. If racing is only about fun and not results, might as well don race in the

first place.

Just stay with pg 5 lap challenge and track days in sepang, confirm will have

more fun than in MSS where u need to wait the whole day for 20mins of ride each

time. U can also compare your timing with those who are racing. If u think Asia

GP is fair maybe u should check with those racing in it. Thats all i can say.

Anyway wun be posting anymore arguements in this issue. I never in the first

place wanted to cheat the system thats y i bother to ask first. If anyone got the

wrong idea, I'm sorry.

Ok Spidey,

As i said ealier, just register ur self for the novice,if u cant than join open or wat ever they put u into. As for me as i said if my financial is ok , i will be joining the novice in MSS this year.

joining the race in Pasir Gudang as for me is to gain the experince and gaining gut to race with ppl in 5 laps race as i can learn other lining and etc in track.

Joining MSS to for me to upgrade myself in other track place with other ppl. I dont bother ppl telling me im not fast or slow. Fast or slow is i have to practice and keep pratice until im confident with myself :thumb:

So if u r gg to join MSS, do let me know as we can ride up together hehehehehe

So  for spidey hehehehehe

Spidey,

Sadly, the rules being applied here are obviously not the same as the biketrials.

I totally agree with what you said about a lot of experience NOT being the only ingredient to speed. But if experience is what the rules HERE are judged by, then who are we to use our own interpretation even if we know what they mean? That’s ignorance right there.

Asian GP unfair? Yeah, there is cheating going on here and there but you can never totally eliminate it. But my question is – is it fairer than MSS? Of course it is, and 99% of riders know the level of RIDING is way above what we are used to. There are guys riding illegal bikes in MSS and there is no real way to prove it since there is no real scrutinizing.

Asia Pac riders have come to MSS on far inferior bikes than what they are used to and still wipe the floor with the best we have to offer – doesn’t that prove that their riders are superior, not the machinery? They would still kick our asses if we swapped the bike around.

So tell me, how “unfair” is Asia Pac? Unless you are saying that it’s unfair because the riders are so good.

However, I will be the first to support a "merit" structured race license system, that mirrors the guidelines used in other more “racing advanced” countries that monitor race results for a rider and have pre-set milestones (highest placing, average placing, number of races, class of vehicle...etc) to determine whether a rider is eligible for next/whatever class. But again, that’s a question for SMSA and there may be many reasons why this has not been implemented.

But until then, these are the rules.

I never said racing was ONLY about fun, I said it should be. Maybe you are too obsessed with results after going through so much hardship in the last few years of 250, we both know they are a lot easier to come by in Novice eh?

SMSA Rep,

Are there any plans to start a merit based licensing system instead of the current system? I know that AAM will probably still impose its own rules for races in Malaysia, but it may be time to start something clearer in Singapore; from which they can follow later if it proves successful.

As you can see, it’s causing a lot of grief.

Guys,

Please take note that the AIM Transponder that SIC will be selling to riders this year IS NOT the same type/model that we used before which is wireless..

They will be selling the Wired type.. It need to be connected to your battery..

Here's my email to Razlan (CEO SIC)

Raz,

Few Question for u with the above regards..

1) Are the AUD$450 a brand new transponder?

2) Which model is this? Issit the same one we have been using or another cheaper model? The model we been using is the wireless type, there is another model that need to be connected to the bike battery.. So which model issit?

Cheers..

Here's Raz reply..

Doc Dol,

For AUD450, it is BRAND NEW. You can go direct and buy from AMB-IT but they will sell it at retail for AUD480 not including delivery and tax. Buying from SIC, it is less and we are working on a tax exemption.

Only AMB transponders will work and there are only one or two players in the world that supplies it and AMB transponders supplies to most tracks in the world.

The transponder comes with a 3 years warranty.

The model we are talking about is cheaper and connect directly to the battery. The ones that are used by SIC is the rechargeable ones and expensive with limited useful life.

With the transponder, you are able to get your lap times every time you use the track whether it is track days or race and you can even use it at the Singapore track once it is ready in 2011.

We will put up an official flyer on this site and others.

However, please do distribute this message.

Thanks

If only PG uses this AMB transponder..it will be a very good investment. Everywhere we go, lap times will be automatically calculated.

Tuas track using the same AMB technology rite Doc??

Yup Tuas Circuit use AMB Transponder.. So does Johor Circuit.. They just need to turn-on the satelite for u..

Oooo..now I noe..but will it cost us any charge when we ask them to turn the satellite on? Both in PG and Tuas..

If both no charge or minimal charge..might be interested to get one..
