Just want to do a quick check with those with voltmeter on their SW.

Recently my volt meters show 12.xV when idling and 14.xV when rpm >3. Last time was 14.xV all the way...

Anyone same situation as me?

If idling rpm is low, say below 1.2k, likely the voltmeter will show 12v++.

As long as moving voltage is 14v++ would be ok.

this is normal... see tech corner posts #8/#11/#12 for more details.

14+V all the way (even when idling) is quite abnormal :p

Charging

Charging of a typical accumulator battery takes place when voltage is around 14V (13.8V~14.3V), between 2A~10A (depending on charging time), and takes more than just a few minutes; few hours are required for "full" charge even when using high Amperage charging (commonly known as quick charge).

Recommended way to recharge is to use small ampere (e.g. ~2A) over for a long period of time; commonly known as "Trickle Charge". Quick charging may be done by using a higher amp setting (e.g. 10A); should only be done if time is limited as overcharging will cause damage to the battery.

Generally, charging may be done:

(a) While riding the bike...

If you have a voltmeter fitted (more accurate if use a multimeter to measure directly from the 2 nodes of the battery), you will see that voltage generated by the bikes alternator (aka magneto or magnetic coil) at idling (about 1.2k rpm) is only around 12+~13V and increases to 14+V as we rev the rpm up (e.g. >4k rpm). This is one common way to test the bike's alternator for working condition. If 14+V cannot be consistently achieved with higher rpm, then something may be wrong with the alternator. This is on the basis that voltmeter is not defective and measures the output accurately (within spec).

Charging using this mode has 2 criteria, sufficient voltage from the alternator and sufficient charging duration. In other words, charging is unlikely to occur if we merely start the engine and leave it running at idling for a few minutes.

need also to consider if voltmeter is defective if it shows lower than "normal" voltages. i had a false alarm where voltmeter showed only about 13V even when at 5+k rpm. after some tests (e.g. compare with voltage measured directly at battery), voltmeter is defective and not showing correct values... got it changed and all OK liow :)

Thanks SW9000 & Scoobydoo, it asure me nothing it's wrong.

But I just don't really get it what causes my sudden change is idling voltage from 14v+ to 12v+

All I can say is for the next year, no one is going to question how much reserve we have and how much does the CPF has.

And or rather, how CPF actually works.

I'm back!!

I'm also back...

from 3hrs of Reborn, shopping, yummy claypot rice and discounted petrol :p

David, your card is with me.

guys, you should try this Rm5.50 claypot rice at the Taman Sri Tebrau Food Centre (N1 29.220 E103 46.085), stall no. 95 (lane nearest to Shell station).

rice is freshly cooked after we place orders (not those precooked stuffs) so be prepared to wait a while. and despite the fact that it costs only Rm5.50 (S$2.30) for 1 pax share, the ingredients are generous (chicken, lat-chiong, salted fish) and most importantly, it is yummy :thumb:

Just thought of sharing this. The roller weights on the SW-T400 is 25.3 grams. Compared to the 28 grams on the previous Silverwing 400. The steel ring is thinner with less material.

Those looking at changing to lighter rollers on the Silverwing 400 can use the original Honda rollers for SW-T400 for better acceleration.

Hmm... I didn't know (or noticed) there's a difference after riding 1x FJS and 2x SW-T.

Moving off is still around 2.6k to 2.8k rpm.

Could the lighter weights be for the GT400 instead?

someone is selling a Morbella GPS PND... for $110

Morbella M660+ Plus 4.3inch Navigator

M660+ was selling at previous PC Show at $139, so you decide whether $110 is a good/fair deal :p

personally, i'ld strongly recommend a Garmin (Gamin/MSM/MFM maps) or Holux/Papago (Papago/MFM maps) if you're looking for one.

COMEX is just few days away, 1~4 Sep 2011... why not drop in to take a look if there's any good bargains :)

I went to boon siew to buy a set of rollers and told them it's for SW-T400. then I measured them individually using a digital scale, 25.3 grams. I was surprised that it's not 28 as I thought it should be.

Then I went to AC motor to change, he showed me a set that's 28 grams and the internal steel ring is thicker. We then proceeded to open up my transmission, only to find out it's the same as the ones I bought, 25.3 grams.

So if I want something lighter, it'll be the malossi 24 grams rollers.

Found a link to the old tech page before the 'upgrade'.

Bought from Sim Lim Sq. Was playing with the Montana 650. Don't come with accessory need to purchase separately. After consideration the zumo660 is more value for money.

ya mann... i computed if buy from Amazon, total cost is abt $880 after adding about $90+ for VPOST shipping/GST on importation.

looks like buying local is better for this unit.
