Hi,

I have been using DT200i since 10 November'12 and i must say i was please & impressed.

I am a big guy so performance & handling is important.

Fyi my dt200i will be at sbf event this weekend at motoworld booth.

My bike had installed the dual camera drive recorder & will be use as demo for the event.

Yes, Downtown has a capable chassis. However, it still doesn't look as sporty as Xciting, and the fact that you can't stretch your legs.... =( Change out to Heidenau/ Metzeler tires and you'll be able to test the limits of Downtown cornering (I've managed to scrap the side stand a few times while cornering on Metzeler tires). This is definitely not within my ability with the crap stock Maxxis tires.

Motor Sport is the Main Distributor for Kymco bikes. They do distribute to other bike shops as well.

Try looking around, some shops may take in a higher price for your used bike where you decide to buy a bike from them.

As far as I know, very few bike shops wanna promote Kymco, let alone take in as trade-in bike.

Still undecided whether to get a Sym Joymax 300i or Kymco DT 300i. Personally I like the look and design of Joymax but worry abt after sales services. For

DT 300i, I like its simplicity and the uncle I met at MS sounds convincing and sincere in providing their sales and services. Can any kind soul share what made you decide to buy a Kymco bike instead of Sym?

Posted

These will be 2 key factors in deciding for SYM JoyMax 300i and Kymco Downtown 300i

1) The ability to stretch legs (Cos DT300i don't allow you to do so as comfortably as JoyMax 300i)

2) Underseat storage (JoyMax can fit 2 M-sized FF helmet whereas Downtown can only fit one half face and one full face)

Other than these, the 2013 JoyMax has really improved a lot on the build quality and the design is able to compete head on with the Downtown. The price is also hardly any different now.

SYM aftersales is slightly better as more bike shops have ready parts for SYM scoot.

And as for sales talk, please don't be taken in by the sales people. Their job afterall is to sell the scoot.

Aiyo.... Chong Aik owns Motorsports. In fact, both are family business. Motorsports is the bike sales arm of ChongAik.

Motorsports also distributes Apache Indian bikes.

Thanks for ur info bro. Will be going down to MS showroom tmr to take a look at the actual bike DT300i as ubi workshop does not have it. As for Joymax, will be heading to Mah Pte Ltd next few day to take a look as well. But I read from the forum the after sales service of Mah's is not good.

I'm 1.7m so should be ok for the ride and oso i previously only wear half face helmet as its more comfortable...n oso partly my head quite big...haha....

Actually my main concern of the choice is more of servicing and maintainance of the bike. Im staying opposite Defu and will oso be at Ubi quite often so finding a workshop should be ok. Which bike is more easier to maintain and got lesser problem? Can kindly enlighten me?

Like I said, don't have to go back to MAH if you don't like their aftersales.

Plenty of bike shops out there have ready spares (what you need is belting, rollers, air filter) for SYM scoots.

Kymco however, strictly need to go back to the agent Motorsports, as they are the only ones with the parts. Even if you go other bike shops to service, they'll still need to get the parts from Motorsports, who will probably charge them even more as they are outsiders.

Previously, the main advantage of buying Kymco over SYM is the quality+design. Now with the latest 2013 JoyMax, the difference between its quality and design has been reduced compared to Downtown 300i luh. Furthermore, Downtown 300i is now a 3-4 years old design liao (launched back in 2009 - FBD plate).

I hope you get what I mean!!! =D

I can say all these cos I used to own a Downtown 125i.

I go to Yeow Motor at 4002 AMK Industrial Pk 1. Ah Chong Motor at Kaki Bukit First East Ctr (Lvl 3), is also good as Ah Chong specializes in scooters. But you may have to wait quite a bit especially on weekends.

Yeow Motor, the mechanic is sort of my neighbor and mechanic friend luh. If you need a quick service go to Yeow Motor. He does charge a bit more on labor cost though, but the mechanic is very thorough about his job.

One thing's for sure, once you get on scooter, you probably wouldn't want to go back to riding a motorcycle.... Twist&Go + Huge underseat storage space... Super practical for Spore roads!!!

Tempted sia.. .feel like trading in for my current ride

FYI the fuel injection system is by Keihin which is OE for almost all the Jap scoot.

Heart of the scoot is built by Kymco themselves.

Be prepared to almost write off your entire purchase price if you decide to sell a Kymco after a few years. No bike shops out there will touch a used Kymco with even a ten-foot pole.

Yeap. Aftersales so bad, resale value also so bad for Kymco (Especially so for DT125i and Xciting 300Ri; Replacement models are DT200i and Xciting 400Ri). Haha.

The Xciting 400Ri is expected to be a good handler and good power. However, 36bhp is just 2 more than my Majesty YP400. Kymco has been smart to reduce the size of the Xciting 400Ri compared to the 300Ri. Smaller size means better handling mah.

But whether or not engine (or for that matter, the variator and clutch can tahan the power), remains to be seen....

Thanks for the info. Luckily for me, I'm working on shift. Most weekday morning I'm always free after sending girl to school.. That's the advantage of working shift:cool:

Btw Bro, wats ur current ride?

My current ride is a Majesty YP400 (09/2005 reg). I got it used for $3k. Just passed my 2A 4th Jan =D

Bought my Downtown 125i@$8.6k (excluding insurance).

Sold it off a few weeks ago to a fellow SBF forummer at $4k, all thanks to DT200i available now.

Good job Motorsports!!!

Just hope MS don't bring in the DT300i ABS....

Don't get me wrong. My dad who traded in his FJR1300 for DT125i back in 06/2011, told me prior to my 2B passing that DT actually has a capable chassis. Doesn't feel like riding a scooter at all. Can corner, and at highway speeds, is really stable. I can attest to it also compared to my Majesty 400 (with its soft springy suspension, it ain't really good at cornering or going over rough roads).

But the aftersales simply sucks to the core. Resale value ain't helping too. Most of us Downtown riders are taken to its looks.

But with the 2013 SYM JoyMax 300i, I'd take the JoyMax anytime over Downtown.... =D

Can stretch leg + huge underseat storage space.

Don't wait already bro. Haha.

U can ask John Brembo he is dealing Heidenau Trye... Gd tyre for dry n wet plus of road

Anyways, if anyone of your need to change your tires, please do consider Heidenau tires. It's carried by Brembo here (just PM him to check for availability).

Similar performance and price to Metzeler, however, you don't have to wait 2 months unlike JR Pte Ltd (distributor of Metzeler tires here)....

Forget about Dunlop, Shinko, Kenda (carried by MS, which is BS). Recommend to change out of Maxxis stock OEM tires for Kymco when delivered. Forget about using Maxxis.

Selling a voucher to redeem one set of K61 Scooter tyres from Kerji Tradings worth $220

Able to use to redeem any size of K61 voucher, but subject to sizes available, else pre-order will be made.
