Just did my first 1000km service yesterday...didnt do it at MS but did it at Toh Guan (bike shop where i bought the bike from)..used 1.4liters actually...cost me 60bucks for it...fully synthetic..kept the balance for the next oil change...

5k service...must change oil filter and wat else??...wat will be the cost roughly..??

engine oil estimate say $20

X2 bottles = $40

plus oil filter say $18

$40+$18 = $58

the other bottles left 0.5-0.7L take it at half = $10

$58-$10= $48

plus labour plus gear oil you do the math.

Will be around the price range.

* Do take note that engine oil can be check cold or after stopping the engine for a least a few minutes later for the oil to flow down.

Oil level will be slightly higher if check with very hot engine.

Oil expand when heated?

Oil level must be check without screwing in the cap. Just insert the dipstick fully without screwing and take out the dip stick. (Piaggio require you to screw in with their scooter - so take note)

Oil level should be between high and low level in the middle and not full level.

Full level are meant for old engine that piston ring is worn to compensate for oil consumption.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Manual recommend at the middle level and I question why middle since there is a max full mark.

So I conclude my own findings.

i was considering between grand dink 150 & X9 actually...http://mary.chalees.com/1.jpghttp://mary.chalees.com/2.jpghttp://mary.chalees.com/3.jpghttp://mary.chalees.com/4.jpghttp://mary.chalees.com/5.jpg

IMO, X9 will be a very sensitive bike to own at this age. It's like a time bomb if you are not sure of the full history.

If you know the scoot very well, you roughly know what thing/parts you need to change next. Something like that.

Grand dink 150 no hear stories about it so no comment.

It's 1.3 litres. Follow Parotae method of checking which is in yr manual anyway. And at 1000km, running in with mineral oil is preferred. I used mineral to change at 200km, 500 then 1000km used up 4 litres

I ride a downtown 300 for 2 years now. No problems with scooter up to now.

Been to malaysia many times with no hiccup.

Scoot is big but managable.

Power enough for Singapore and Malaysia.

Seat below can store 2 helmet.

Good fuel consumption at about 27km/L

12.5L fuel tank.

Very easy to maintain.

Just regular 5K sevice like engine oil a d oil filter. Gear oil and etc.

One very important factor you must consider is do the agent of your scooter carry most of the major spare parts.

Motor Sport agent for Kymco carry most of the spare parts and they have a store for it.

At least I don't hear stories like others have to order and wait for spare parts.

umm which one better ah sym or kymco u think?

Are you comparing the 2 300cc scooter above?

Are you comparing:

Overall?

Performance?

Price?

Reliability?

Resale?

Maintenance?

Spare Part Price?

Spare Parts Support?

I personally think that Kymco is the better scoot.

I do like the Sym Maxsym 400 and GTS300 (K13)

If you have been following the Maxsym thread you would have known some issues. There are no perfect bike, just buy the bike you like or think is a good bike. You live and learn.

Overall?

This is a Kymco thread of course i say Kymco better lah ha ha ha.

After seeing the GTS I am very happy with Kymco Downtown 300i. Performance should be about the same albeit Downtown have more cc.

I like the GTS very much so much so that I was considering changing to GTS after seeing it on the internet. So swee, so sharp. My friend don't like the design though.

During the SBF Annivesary this year at SCAPE, I manage to get a first hand view of the actually bike. I was so excited when i saw it at the MAH stand. That excitement was short live. The scoot was small and was I was very disappointed with the size. Looks good on pics and on it's own. I like the built in fog/spot light. Once sat on it feel very expose due to the size and narrow fairing. That's my opinion anyway. If it were bigger in size and cc it would be perfect for me.

Performance?

GTS300i spec below

Downtown 300 Spec below

Price?

I don't know about Sym

Downtown 300 about $11K-$12K

Reliability?

Kymco Downtown 300 so far very good.

I would still go for a Kymco after hearing and reading some horror stories about SYM scooter :p

Resale?

Huh? What is that?

Maintenance?

I would guess most scooters are the same.

Spare Part Price?

Kymco parts slighly less than reasonable.

Sym heard was cheap but can you get it easily and locally.

Spare Parts Support?

Kymco Motor Sport have a store for most spare parts.

I personally think that Kymco is the better scooter.

There's no good or bad scooter end of the day it's your money paying from your own pocket. Just go with whatever that you feel good and comfortable.

Anyone can let me know how much is DT300i oil filter and where buy cheapest?

The oil filter should be less than $15. Best you can call Motorsport and confirm.

If you can get the part number of the filter no harm trying to go to a car part sales to try. It may be cheaper and end of the day you save. How about sharing if you get it. Cheers.

Its been raining the whole day... please ride safe fellow riders.

Wah visibility very poor for car side mirror.

I find we need auxiliary light that's different from our yellowish headlamp that driver's or other road user can differentiate us from cars on their rear view mirror or side mirror.

A car cut into me while i lane split as the traffic is very slow. Upon seeing a car suddenly cutting in on my right i turn with it and jammed and skidded the front wheel almost hitting it's door.

Stop for a while and rode off with a sigh of relive.

Too bad auxiliary lights are illegal.

With lights like below, i am sure other road user will usually take a longer and harder look at what is that making motorcyclist more noticeable.

Lucky you.....

Wat to do? If i were the LTA director, I make sure all my staff go ride a bike before they make any regulation/policy for motorcycle. Seems the present regulations all decided by some bo nao ppl.....
