Some things to talk ..what do you, people think of putting a pair of spot light at or over the engine guard (not crash bar I don't like the sound of crash bar) as ... I hope it might help to redirect or deflect rains...so far anybody OUT THERE.?...Xxxclude D TP. only use during bad weather or touring...I saw at chong aik $70 a set nice stainless steel lamps..

Gasper as you say you replaced the tyres 20000klick so soon. Right safety come FiRsT , yes I realise during wet season its quite slippery ESPECIALLY the arrows and broken lines try to avoid those things when over taking crossing over to next lane or cornering and brakings regardless the type of tyres you bike wear.

I like bridgestone battalax 020 tyres for sport touring, grip is good on wet and dry.. I ever use it before on ST11, I just waiting for the Dunlops to wear out...

You all know that the XJ900/s has ceased its production last year Dec 2003...

Safe Ridings SiLvErGhOsT o_O

Yups divvy no more production liao.Planning to keep this bike, hoping that the value will maintain..unlike 929 whose value dropped like flies when 954 came out...

I have yet to hit 20,000km...saw a used pair of pirelli dragon at the shop...the mechanic showed it to me and told me that that used pair was used on a st11 for more than 20,000km...had a look at it...still looked as new...no warping of tyres etc..wonder why the st11 changed it...

also heard that bt020 is good for touring bikes but too bad that shop which i went to did not have size 150 or 160 for the rear ... so no choice but to try "Dragon"

yups yups yups .... I always try to avoid those arrows and lane marking on the road esp when the road surface is wet! maybe it becos our divvy have too high a centre of gravity plus the weight of the bike ... that's why feel very insecure when gg over wet arrows / lane markings .... wonder what tyres TP are using to minimise this risk to their officers...

jleo, Whatsuuupmmman I haven't met you yet but like to meet you'll and get introduce. Forgive if you are offended I hate to see riders on slippers singlets shorts and their girl friend as pillion with tubes I felt very very scared for them. when (touchwood) they fall the concequences I can't imagine.

My colleuge's friend Beng rides R1 it was in a group going for a supper, during a cornering he lost control of his bike so to gain control of his bike he kick the road to get back in control but still drop , you know what happen after the drop, after the andriene rush and the condition of his R1 effect...

Then comes a small sensation at his left leg then the pain grew (regardless other bruises and pain) to his horror his Big toe is MIA missing.in.action...and nor where to be found at the crash site... it happened last year...And he was wearing slippers...!!!

OMD gave a good Debriefing on safety...

If I or anyone were to talk about the safety the whole day it will be boring .. even thou it is given a first priority...:thumb:

Hi Silverghost,

Hope to get introduced to u and to the rest of the guys as well too.

No offence at all. In fact i thank u all for the kind advices. My choice of attire is a bad habit of mine n i admit i am lazy to do otherwise unless i go 4 long rides. Short supper trips i dont usually bother. Will keep myself reminded of the safety aspect to discourage myself from riding w/o proper gear.

Cheers.

You'd be quite dissapointed with the value u can get if u do decide to sell your bike as you'll lose quite a sum. But as long as u are fully satisfied with what the bike has given in return, i dont see it much as an issue. I make sure i fully utilize it by going 4 a trip every now n then.

With regards to tyres. I seem to feel differently. I do feel it is adequate for any weather riding and even enuf for the occassional scrape of the crashbar while cornering:smile: ... Even better is that after a mileage 20k(km), there is still alot of tyre tread depth left. Maybe i havent use others b4 so i cant say much. My last ride handles like sh*t n this in comparative is so much better. From the way it goes i believe it can last another 20k b4 i'd need a change.

BTW bridgestone battalax 020 tyres , how much ar?

Cheers

Me...I have 2 spot light which I find extremely helpful esp on Malaysia road.

Our present headlight has good coverage for the immediate front, but does not throw far enough. U can hardly see the reflector on the road further than 150 m.

With the Spot light, it actually light up the front , not too worry to ride in the night.

As a deflector , not very sure how effective, cos under heavy rain I still got drenched.

FRANKILY I don't who is gopah but so far all the while I service at LOOI's ubi ave.I also change my tyres there for all my former bikes..

All big bike looses its value after sometime...and it depends on the demand...when you buy a good value for money and you don't see any serious repair then why worry stick to it...afterall $$$$ hard earn cash...

I add a modification a buzzer which cost about 2.50 12v bought from sim lim tower. this buzzer i connected to the fuel warning lamp a very simple mod and a cable tie... if I forget to refuel you know what happens.....

Palary, you mention spot lights which type you fixed halogen bulb type or the ordinary bulb... blue ,yellow or normal bulb...how about the current consumption..?

Guy,

Just came back from my mechanic. After just 4000 miles, my rear brake pads are totally gone!!! Anyone can share their experience with brake pads? I am using an Italian brand called Neufren, was recommended by my mechanic. Asked for SBS, but was told that it wears off pretty fast and it is very dusty. Did the regular oil/filter/gear oil change and also adjusted my rear suspension preload to 5 (was at 3 b4 that). Now my rides seems to be a little stiff, will give you folks feedback soon. Also changed my bar ends to heavier ones, have to see a few days on how it affects my rides.

As for tyres, was qouted $320 for the Battlax BT020. Will be changing to them soon.

For those looking for a Diversion, there is a silver FW plater at Motor Sales. Harry (the boss) was asking $14K for it. Pass this info along...........helps to make the Diversion family grow.

Will be riding up North this weekend.................Yahooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

U just calculate, 1 halogen bulb is 55W, 12V...So it is 55/12 approx. 4.4 Amp

2 bulb will be appro. 8-9 Amp....Quite alot of current.

I use the Yellow type, there was once I fixed a White one, But realise that visibility under foggy conditions is not too good. So now I stick to the Yellow whitish type..

U need to add some rubber gasket when u install the Light, if not the vibrations will cause your bulb to konk out.

Palary,

Could you please enlighten me on the issue of changing one's headlights to the white light type? There are some camps that say the white lamps can overload the bikes electrical system and whatevernot. What is your understanding?

What do the various numbers on the lamp itself mean? Any precautions I have to take when changing to an aftermarket lamps, or can I just go out any buy the brightest lamp I can find?

Thanx in advance.

OMD

First, if u electral supply is 12V, means U must always get a 12V bulb. Getting a 6V bulb will fried the fella. Getting a 18V bulb is fine, but your bulb will be dimmer, so not so good.

The second thing is the wattage (W) This is a indication of the brightness and amount of heat generated. The higher the Wattage the brighter the bulb, but also more heat generated. So there may be a possibility to melt your Front light reflector. Not sure what is the right wattage before the reflector starts to melt, But 100W is quite scary to me...2X the amount of heat generate and 2X the amount of current drawn from your battery. Meaning Your Charger may not be able to charge up your battery when u ride and also to support the Headlamp...Unless u ride High speed all teh time...

Yellow light is good in penerating Fogs...

White light will be bounce of the whitish fog, so it is entirely useless if u really want to use at night.

Thanks for the tyre prices.

I had the same prob with fast wearing rear pads as mine was worn to the metal in under 3300miles. Changed at HL for $65 a pair(big mistake) but it has lasted and still quite alot more despite the 12k miles mileage.

On this note for comparison, my front pads lasted ard 8000miles. Using some ceremic brake pads for the front(Mizuki or something like that), changed at $18 a pair. So far so good.

Change the suspension back to the soft original settings cos i didnt like the stiff suspension adjustment to 5.

ALright mannn you got it, palary you know your bike and it's function....brilliant. white lamps good and not soooo good, watts and consumption play a big roll here. ,90,100,130,150 watts look out for this numbers. As what palary says is true it will it your battery alive and fuse some times blow. stick to the lower watts say between 55 to 65 play around there you are safe if you are using other spot lights or two filaments.. marker cum signal lights all these must take into consideration...

AND now( TP )what I come to know, they are stopping those with white lights infact it is not approved and it is not the OEM...

OMD the cost of the Battalax BT020 is $320...confirmed at Looi's motor. About brake pad 4000km is nothing new it is depends on the rider application and it is ok..normal wear and tear and the number of traffic lights you hit....

Try EBC (us) brake pads you can feel the gripings $30 one set. Engine oil did you use Mobil 1 syn or castrol syn 5-15w my recomendation. don't use gold M1 0-5w the Viscosity is too thin...!! oil filters they the mechanic may use Honda oil filters they fit but so far no problemmm, I have not check the oil pressure( PSI )in the filter yet...?I supposed it should be same as honda bikes....and it cost a bit cheaper.

I use to change the oil,oil filter, spark plugs my self..all the while, some time lazy bring my bike to shop let them change. Any breaking news lately..

Het The last time when i was at Seng Kwang to change oil, they puzzled why am I using Honda filer. So he bring me a Yamaha filter; though outside they look alike, inside there were some different.

So from now on, I'm using Yamaha filter which cost about the same , $18/...Honda filter I bought for $18 also at Mah motors...

As for the fronk brake pad...I used teh cheap isumi from LAB...not so good...Under heavy rain I can hear the squeeky sound and when it is aproaching to a stop, there were some jerking stop...

Guess I've to change tosomething else now..

Palary,

Brake pads there are few types the price range is so much different, cheap are dusty noisy and eat your brake disc, sooner you will find drains and valleys in them stick to an average pads and those recommended by mechs and some sports bike mag which they do test on bikes, mine was recommended by mech and bike mag test e.g SBS OR EBC. if you wanted to use the original pads from agent the price range just for pads can be around $60 to $100... All brake pads produce dust if they never produce any dust then it is metal grind dust and time to time you must wash or spray water at the brake calipers..not jet spray...

thanks for the filter enlightment but ??? when I went to buy the filter at evergreen at the Lembu Rd, they say it can be use, ok they say, they check with the Yam agent. :bouncefire:

I'm now looking for a replacement for a loud electric horn that sounds like Car mercedes maybe...

Anyone has brought one? where and price?

Posted

Hi Palary,

You like the horn of the Merz their size is also like Merz, try the car scrape yard you might get cheaper. why don't you just add another horn or buy a set of hella horns it use by continentel cars...esp Merz & BMs.... nice and shiny chrome horns..

Fix the horns using the oil cooler bolts at both side and push the horns near to the cowlings grove both side leaving about 5mm gap between the cowling and enough space for the oil cooler.... thats what I did look like a spot lights shiny from the front view...he,he,he..

My friend gave me his spare spot lights infact he fixed 4 spot lights on his shadow 750, looks fears and abit over do but suits his bike.... but now the bracket of his spot light gave way so he says 2 is enough and gave me 1 set of those chrome type spot light that uses the normal bulb.

One of the day... I might go down to the SK to weld the bracket on the engine guard...a set of bracket should be around $20.....

When I fix the super flip screen it is high but the wind protection(wind blast) is wonderfulllll only can hear the engine growling all the way.

I might hind your advise may add yellow bulbs to the spot lights...now where to get the bulbs......???

Now where am I going to tap the supply from...Palary how about you where did you tap your supply for the spot lights headlamps or marker lights(small light) adding a switch to the top of the cowling no problem can get from Sim Lim tower..:goodluck:

I didn't tap the supply from the Headlamp or marker light, (thought the fuse may be able to handle the current if u replace it). What I'm afraid is the the wiring may melt or the switch got fuse up bythe high current.

Thus I run a cable all the way from the battery (with a 10A fuse in between)...To a 15 A relay. Then this relay is control by a switch, which drawn it current from the utility light.

Thus the spot like can only be turn on when u Turn the main Key to 'ON' , together with the Switch.

If u still not sure what I did, tell me the place to meet up, I can explain to u the circuit and show u how I connect.

Ok where u buy your hella from??

Posted

hEY thanks,

I never trhough of the utility lighting wires is it (parking lights) am I right...maybe I trace the incoming supply to the Ignition then tap it from there by adding 10amp fuse and switches to the spot lights...

hella horns you can get from car spare parts shop, Autobac, or even some bike shops..

I hope these may help you..

Palary,

Try using the Stebel electric horns. They are supposedly better than Hella or Fiam. I am referring to the snail type of horn (red and black ones) which comes in a pair. I am currently using a pair of Hella horns (not the snail type), they are loud enough but not the kind of sound you get from those continental cars.

SilverGhost,

How does the new screen fit in relation to your mirrors?

To all,

Just got back from trip up North. Pushed the bike to see how far it can go. Here are the facts :-

1) Average cruising speed was 140km/h on NSH. Max speed hit was 200km/h. Trunk roads was done at about 80-100km/h.

2) Got about 14km/l on the fuel consumption due to high RPM operation.

3) With the addition of a top box, it greatly affects the stability of the bike at high speeds (prone to shifting when there is crosswind).

4) Overall, the bike performed as promised by Yamaha. It is a great touring bike with all the creature comforts needed to cover extensive miles. A note though, the seats do get a little uncomfortable after about 1½ hours or riding.

Hope that helps.

Hi OMD welcome back to S'pore,

You were asking abt the relationship between the mirrors and screen, as Caspy says that he need to cut the mirrors as he have problem in locking the handle....??

After I fix the Super flip Super high screen (feedback abit disoriented looking thru) not use to the hight of the screen BUT THEY ARE WONDERFUL as I say..

When I bought the bike the first day itself, I already adjusted the handle towards me and that position... it is much more comfortable to hold and relax the arm...

When I fixed the screen I have no problem or whatsoever with the (handle knocking) to the screen....

Casper some minor adjusment to the handle No Need to cut the mirrors...the mirrors a wonderfull you can look, all the way back..even thou it is ugly!!!!

I try some mirrors few months back, they are not advisable their view angle is small... stick to the original .....:thumb:
