since my 2B GoPa is the only workshop I visit. I do admit he is quite pricey and yet I still go to him for basically 3 simple reasons. 1. He is really near to where I stay. (Lame I know but it is true) 2. He gives advices on what not to get and what to get. (Make me feels I am not ripped off) He is willing to teach newbies like me stuff which we want to know. 3. He is really helpful (you could say he is earning $$) but I still feel his action of coming to my house to let me sign on the paper to layoff my bike and proceed with all the necessary documents, find me a lawyer when I was wheelchaired bound touches my heart as I feel he doesn't only treat me like a customer but like a friend.

Despite all these, there is some downside to his servicing turnover timing. For example. Changing engine oil could sometime cost me a full day... as once any ST11 enter his shop he will tend to look after them first. I was unhappy about this until I realised he is still a businessman needing to feed his family.

Also he seldom/almost never issue receipt. Those who have been there servicing before should know, he just scribbled on a piece of wastepaper lookalike and tell you the amount. Usually I don't bargain as I just want my bike to be serviced properly and safety first which I know he does give me that sense of security.

One man's meat is another man's poison, if you think you can't stand his way of doing things then I afraid you have to look elsewhere. I'm just stating the personal experience not siding anyone. :)

Thats so true. He is crazy. Crazy for ST that is. His shop is almost full of STs. U can go down anytime and there will be a ST in his workshop. That is excluding his very own ST.

Once i went down to change my fork. While there i heard him saying the Yamaha FJR1300 till kanna sai and his ST till like its made in heaven. THat makes me think that he is biased. As my family owned a FJR, i defended the FJR but it was like talking to a wall so i gave up. At the end of the day its just his personal oppinion thats all. Though i believe every bike has its good point and bad point, it good to listen to him talk abt reviews he recieved. For my Varadero, he also crit till siao and i really wanna kill him sometimes but after thinking over it, its quite true to a point. Eg. Parts are expensive.

He is a good mechanic for bikes, BUT when u wanna go down, give him a call to make sure there is no STs there or else be prepared to stay for a long time :cheeky:

i agree with Demues.. and a couple of the other guys too..

1. quite near my place too.. :)

2. gives advice.. too much at times..

3. helpful.. when i ask to get it fixed fast, dun wanna lay up the bike too long, he'll try his best..

4. safety & sense of security

5. no complaints on the workmanship

i haven't had any problems so far.. price a little higher, but i'm ok with that as long as its a job well done..

although i feel he gets a little pushy when u disagree, and is a little opinionated, which i suspect is turning some people off.. but if you can manage that, listen to him but take it with a pinch of salt, he's fine..

oh, and the receipt thing, if i ask he will give.. on the spot.. no issue there too..

I went there for my bike repair recently. End up a mess. I wouldn't not recommend people to visit this shop. He can sweettalk to you in the beginning and never get things done.

Go to him if you know him or else NEVER to visit his shop.

Scarey and sad experience ..

Every mech will have supporters and nay-sayers. Have had my fair share of bad experiences with highly recommended mechs, as well as very good ones with mechs many people don't like for whatever reason.

If the mech meets your bike's needs, good. Else just move on.

I bought all 4 bikes from Gopa.

Same here, clueless noob when I got my Class 2B license. An old-time pal recommended him to me. His exact words were "His service is slightly more expensive but he really takes care of your bike. And he is very safety-conscious so you dun have to worry."

And Gopa really performs to this expectation.

He is an experienced mechanic, especially when it involves Honda bikes and ST11.

He is an old-school kind guy, friendly uncle type but not exactly a smooth-talker. I agree with all the points that other bros made in his favour. He is exactly like that.

I have learnt to call him before I send my bike down for servicing and what-other. And he usually delivers on his ETA.

He never fails to call me whenever he found other problems on my bike or encounter logistics problem getting parts for me. His estimate for repair costs are pretty accurate. I had never encountered un-explained costs during payment time.

He tries to help you save on unnecessary costs too. Recently, when I wanted to pump V Power for my 1st top-up on the deauville, he went all bug-eyed on me and says "98 good enough already. dun waste your money".

And if you are really tight on your budget, he will try finding ways to help you (without compromising his "Safety First" principle).

I have seen Gopa getting frustrated before. Gopa has his bias and prejudices, just like any other people.

But I still go to him because I get assurance and peace of mind.

(I am the blur rider type who depends on my mechanic to tell me what needs servicing and changing.)

Aiyah, see how lah. When your personalities clash, just look for another mechanic. There's plenty of bike shops in Singapore.

Goo
