Cant find any thread abt this...

nwae heres the case,

I rode to Thailand on Mon and upon the vehicle clearance, the officer said that my bike did not return a certain form the last time it went in Thailand.

Records shown that it was in 2005, i argued that i just bought the bike a month ago and its not possible for me to be liable for it, to no avail that is thus i had to pay a fine of 2000 baht to settle the case.

I got from the officer the details of the rider who rode the bike and got his name, add, ic no.

Qns here, is der a legal way for me to claim from the offender? thru LTA or ICA probably? or do the ah long san way and O$P$ at his door :cheeky:

2000 baht is not worth going after for lah. If you file a claim at the small claims tribunal, there is still a small fee like $10 or $20 which you, the claimant have to pay. The hassle of it all, if the rider refuses to pay you for the sake of the sum, worth it meh?

If the previous owner is the kind that will pay, he would have settled the previous fine even before he sold it off. While we're at this topic, I suggest you check if the bike has any outstanding fines by Malaysia TP. This one don't play play... Can get impound when they set up road block to catch.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Errrm.....wasnt the bike and the rider fined on the way back to Malaysia?

How come 2005 can drag for fines and payment for so long?

Its probably the thai police kopi money thing.

Heck, over there, its approved corruption. Not like Malaysia or Indonesia where it has to be under table.

Sg bikers, then please take note, that the police there will be targetting sg riders, since sg poreans are so rich.

It have always been that way.

To enter with your motorcycle, you have to apply for the permit and the temporary import papers are issued on arrival at the border.

As long you return the permit on leaving, you won't have any trouble coming back again.

This will be told to you beforehand.

Many have rode into thailand various times and have no problems at all.

Slow down abit, smell the air and enjoy the scenery.

Caught the touring bug once again!

Riding in is obviously not the problem for the above rider.

But why is there penalties happening to the new rider now?

cause apparently the penalty is tagged to the bike not the rider.. which i find rather nonsensical... i even gt the transfer form stating i just gt the bike a mth ago..

it is really not fair huh... :sian:

I think the previous owner was not intentional in this issue. Rather it was the carelessness or inexperience with Thai immigration procedures.

Since you have the contact of the owner. Why dun you invite him out for coffee..talk things over. If he is understanding enuf he would compensate you for all th trouble at least by paying for the fine. Or you can even divide the half-half.

If the owner refused, well i guess have to suck thumb bro. there is no advantage in trying to claim..all the effort, time and money for jus $80.
