Hi,

Happened to chance upon this forum when I was looking for advices on taking class 2B at CDC. The thread seems outdated and so decided to create another thread here for updates. I have been driving for the past 20 years and always wanted to learn riding and this year I made this my resolution for 2019 and decided to go register for class 2B in Jan. Skipped BTT because of class 3, and went straight for DRT and RTT scheduled on 16 March.

First lesson: circuit orientation on 1 Feb. Basically an intro to the entire circuit and nothing much on this, got the first chop and proceeded to book my lesson 1.

Lesson 1 on 14 Feb because I have to clear the DRT before I can book lesson 1. Bang tyres, learning to change gear up and down in the mini circuit. I was the only new learner in lesson 1 but I proceeded to join the repeaters shortly. Went out to the main circuit for a few rounds, luckily I passed on first time, and proceeded to book lesson 2.

Lesson 2 on 19 Feb. Learn about lane change, turning left and turning right. Instructor explained the entire lesson in training shed and off we went for ride. Was booked for abruptly changing lane and not checking blindspot. Failed and rebooked again.

Lesson 2 on 23 Feb. Same old thing and felt I did better because I have been doing "mental riding" to remind myself about checking blindspot, but unfortunately still didnt make the mark. Failed and rebooked again.

Lesson 2 on 26 Feb. Did much better and felt like checking blindspot was burnt into my muscle memory, felt so natural to check now. Passed lesson 2. I felt this lesson the most important IMO, because many times learners tend to fail and get marked for not checking blindspot. So I am glad I repeated this lesson twice.

Lesson 3 on 28 Feb. Slope, Figure 8 and Crank course. For slope, just have to find the biting point on your bike, every bike is different. So for me, everytime I get the bike, I will find its biting point in the nursery first before going out. For Figure 8, kick into gear 2 before entering the course and look ahead, not below. If you look down, chances are you gonna slow down and not meet the timing. Crank course same as figure 8, kick into gear 2 before entering and just follow through. Before every course, please check back right and left blindspot. This check back and blindspot will follow you all the way till you get your license. Passed on first time.

Lesson 4 on 5 March. Plank, Pylon and E-brake. Same concept as lesson 3, just different obstacle. Plank on gear 1 and play with your clutch to maintain balance. Never look down else you will dismount the plank. Trick is mount the plank at higher speed and your speed will reduce when you are on the plank. just play with your clutch, I never use my rear brake at all whenever I mount the plank because half clutch is more than enough, I can hit 8.5 sec with half clutch throughout. Just look far and you be good to go. For pylon, try to position yourself more to the right so that you can bank more without hitting the pylon. Kick into gear 2 before the first pylon and you need to check right blinspot when you exit the last pylon. E-brake is straight forward. You need to gear up to 3 and maintain at least 35kmh. When approaching the brake start line, arm straightened look far and brake on both front and rear brakes together, left hand off the clutch. when the bike is stopping, engage clutch and stop in gear 3. check back right and right leg down and change to gear 1, check back left and switch your legs and signal right, check back right again before moving off. Passed on first time.

Lesson 5 on 9 March. I did 2 circuit revision on 6 and 9 March before going for my lesson 5 evaluation. It's a mini test on all circuit, so it tests you on all 6 obstacles and general riding. A lot of learners will get panalised on blindspot. So be careful and check. Lesson 5 and 8 will be conducted together but lesson 8 will go first because they need to go to the road after this. it's in running tag number, so if you don't want to go first, you can take the biggest number. I was 2nd in line, did all the obstacles but screwed up in e-brake. The damn bike got stuck in gear 2 even though I kicked so many times and pumped my clutch to make sure it's in gear 1, it's still stuck in gear 2. Moved off in wrong gear and stalled. I got 6 points here and 4 point for clearing the pylon in 6.34 sec. Overall, I passed on first time with 10 point. It was really unlucky to get that 6 points during e-brake, because it happened to me before on other bikes that's why I am very mindful of the gear. And that was why I kicked so many times and also pumped the clutch to make sure the gear will go down to 1 but unfortunately it didn't. So bike sometimes played a part. But nonetheless, I was happy to clear lesson 5.

Lesson 6 on 11 March. It's a night lesson because it's our first time on the road. So lesson 6 will most likely be at night because of less congested traffic on the road. Went though the briefing in the shed and instructor will ask about the general rules, road signs etc, so please read up and get yourself prepared. My advice is read up and get yourself prepared for every lesson, don't go there expecting to be spoonfed, you will find the lesson easier if you are mentally prepared. Lesson 6 will be going through test route 2. Instructor will assess your general riding and confidence on your own judgement. Passed on first time.

Lesson 7 on 12 March. I booked another night lesson because it's the earliest lesson I can get. Same thing as lesson 6 but we went through test route 1 which is the primary test route for TP. Passed on first time.

I am waiting for my lesson 8 which is on 19 March. So far I cleared all my lesson on first time except for lesson 2, but I am grateful for that because it helps me a lot after that. Because I have been driving for the past 20 years, it's totally different when it comes to riding, so lesson 2 actually help me to adjust my mentality from driving to riding.

Will update here again after my lesson 8. Hopefully in time for the TP on 10 April.

I am not a natural rider, I felt lesson 2 really taught me well and I felt that was the most important lesson of all the 8... Just completed my final lesson 8 today and cleared with 12 points. 4 points being looking down during E-brake, I looked down because I overshot the red line during my revision during session 1, that was my first time overshooting since lesson 4. 4 points for failing to engage into correct gear when stopping/turning, I got this when I was exiting from crank course and I was in the yellow box but in gear 2. and 2 x2 points for incorrect position.

Overall, upon completion of all lessons and theories I took 2 months and 1 day (from 18 Jan), 11 lessons/3 circuit revision and 1 road revision. Only did 1 road revision during session 2 to have a feel of the traffic outside because my lesson was at session 2, felt okay and didn;t want to waste money on road revision because it was only a 2-round trip and very straightforward.

Looking forward to the final TP on 17 April!

Please be aware it's very easy to get congested on UBI RD 2 in the morning, it's very tricky for TP test. Good luck for you on TP test day

Cleared my TP today! It was a long 1-month wait since clearing my lesson on 19 March. Booked 2 road revisions and 2 circuit revision after taking a 3 week break to get myself back in the tempo and the morning rush hour.

Reported at 7am and there was a total of 51 testees. Went for 2 rounds of warmup and there was a lot of waiting here and there. Test started at 830am and we were dispatched in groups of 10. By the way, you can't really choose the bike you want, it's all random though some of them got what they wanted. I basically got 4 different bikes for the 2 warmups, circuit test and road test. After the circuit test, we hang around in the shed while waiting for the testers to consolidate the result and 11 failed and the remaining 40 of us proceeded with the road test. Test was conducted just like lesson 8 except that there was no instructors following you out to the road, 5 testers were stationed at all the junctions to spot your mistakes. After returning back, we were asked to proceed to the TP waiting room located at level 2. Waited for about 30 min and tester came in and called out 6 tag number, which meant they failed, so 34 of us passed the TP. Took the pledge and waited for instructor to scan our IC, they go in sequence so those first few tag number will get to book the EFR while the remaining will have to come back again. I was number 10 so I was able to book the 235pm slot. Had my lunch and waited till 235pm to start the joyride on expressway which went from PIE-TPE-KPE. After they will proceed to close your CDC account and inform you that any balance will be mailed to you in the form of cheque. With the form certifying that you have completed the EFR, you can proceed to level 2 TP office and pass them your existing license if you have 1, to have a new sticker with the class 2B stated on it.

With this, I concluded my class 2B journey in 3 months. Definitely enjoy the process and the amount of sweat, and I will definitely go back for my class 2A and 2. Meanwhile, hunting for a Duke 200! Will be happy to answer any questions if you have one...
