Hi, sorry but I couldn't find anything on this. I've been adviced to change engine oil frequently to help maintain my engine to be as good as the first day I bought it. But is there more that can be done to maintain the engine? Like I should avoid letting my bike hit high rpm too often, all that?

Lube chain/check brake all these not counted. This thread is purely for ENGINE only.

How about checking of Spark Plugs? The plugs will show the condition of the engine cylinders. Using the right plugs is VERY VERY important.

Maybe before changing ur EO & oil filter, u should flush it first using OWS engine flush..Making it clear the engine completely b4 refilling..thus making ur engine last longer,IMO lah..lol

always give time for engine to warm up.

engine wear most at initial start n when it is cold.

most of us will startup engine wait for a minute or so then move off.

this is insufficient time to let the oil warm enough for it to be in fully function state.

it usually takes about 5 mins for oil to warm up at idle 1.5k rpm.

if u r in a hurry, just throttle up to 2~2.5k rpm for about 2~3 mins then go slow for 1 km.

I try to do that as much as I can but sometimes really rush.. But yes, when I do go off early, I go slow at the first few kms!

Let me summarize

1. Change engine oil frequently

2. Use the right spark plugs

3. Flush engine with OWS Engine flush when changing EO

4. Warm up engine before moving off

By the way, my bike has no oil filter. Honda CBF 150. Is there something in the engine that does the oil filter's job?

others to consider include...

+ maintain clean/good radiator coolant (e.g. change every 24k kms or annually)

+ cleaning/washing the carburetors (e.g. every 16k kms)

+ synchronizing the air-valves (e.g. every 5k kms)

+ valve clearance (e.g. after substantial mileage, subjective)

+ check condition of ignition wires & contact points

+ check condition of magneto using voltmeter/multimeter

+ timing belt/chain change or adjustment

+ check condition of clutch if visible (for scooters)

+ etc...

bike tat dun have filter element, they do have a strainer filter.

it's a wire mesh cone shape usually located at the bottom where the drain plug is.

when u drain your oil by removing the drain plug then u can see it.

there will be a spring between drain plug n strainer.

just use air to blow the strainer n make sure nothing like carbon or sludge is stuck in between the mesh.

There's a book called "Motorcycle Owners' Manual" that you can get for about S$21 that has lots of information around some of the basic maintenance you can do on your bike. I find it very good information as I am new to bikes so your mileage might vary. But I do recommend a book at least for a solid foundation.

I got mine from Borders Books at Whee Lock Place. Call them to check if they have anymore in stock before going to check. You can also call Books Kinokuniya to check.

Maintainin 4 stroke noting much leh .. unless its 2 stroke .. tats a killer ...

2 stroke killer? doubt that. the only difference to me is there is a 2t tank. other than that, its pretty much like any other motorsikal

agree, to maintain a 2 stroker is more a hassle esp during full service. always hear "abg, ur this one wear out already", "abg, ur this one leaking already":faint:

dark mode, or light mode?
