Hi Guys

Firstly, I apologised shud this topic has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread.

I just bought Shadow ACE. Really cool bike, but I really don fancy handle, too wide and low. I thought of getting straight and shorter handle bar..but somebody told me it will make the bike hard to control..

Issit true? I really like to change the handle..but if hard to control, might as well I use current handle.

Thanks for attention.

Why not try it for a month or two .. and if you still don't like it, then consider a change.

I rode a Shadow 400 before and I kinda like the wide feel .... anyway in the end its up to you. So give it a try and if really don't feel comfortable, then by all means change.

have bike will travel . . . . .

At least you are not changing to anything wider 'cos you may need to change the cables.

Hi Aragon,

Welcome to the forum. I know of someone who did exactly the same as what you are thinking of, changed to a straight T-bar. Handling does take times to get used to and change of handle may not be necessary the best option for the bike in terms of handling and maneuverability. Like what NormalAspirated and isaac chan had suggested and advised, if you are new to the bike, probably get yourself familiar with before deciding a change of the handlebar.

i thought of changing to higher handle bar to improve riding posture but think i may need to change the cables as well. where can get the cables changed? and what are the pros & cons of changing to higher handle bars?

Thanks for any inputs.

Like what I have mentioned above, handling and maneuverability would takes time to get used to. It goes when you cornering, if your ape/kong hanger is too high up, lean angle would be affected. Of course it may be quite a sight to have ape/kong hanger on your bike, but eventually it is just novelty than usability if the handlebar is too high up. Riding in the city is still feasible, but definitely not recommended for long touring trip in mind. If you are going to fix one, do ensure the height doesn’t goes above your shoulder level unless you are really looking into novelty sight.

The extended clutch and throttle cable would pose some difficulties, as you would have to measure length (in inches) required before beginning your search at the bike shop (e.g. Lab, Regina, HKL, Loois etc). For brake hose, my personal preference would be HEL, which, comes in stainless steel swages fittings permanently attached to a stainless steel braided Teflon hose. You would be able to get a quotation for your bike model at “Vector One” and “Motorworld”, price is around the range of $100 odds. However, if you are on a budget, there is stainless steel braided brake line with aluminum fittings; Spiegler available at BikeLab.

I'm actually wanted to change it to shoulder level not above than that. I thought can buy the handle bar and bring it to a workshop for the necessary fixing. It seems alot of work in this case. Any workshop to recommend for changing cables?

Anyway thanks for your advice, Nights.

May I suggest R S Bike Centre located at Blk 1063 #01-193 Eunos Avenue 4 S (409801) Tel: 6747 8202. Give a call to Rosli for a check on availability of all necessary items before fixing an appointment with him for the makeover.

Otherwise, you could visit Motorworld located at 10 Kaki Bukit Road 1, #01-08. Tel: 68440792 since they should already have ready stock for the necessary cables and brake line, but nevertheless, give them a call to check first.

PS: Whichever shop you decided to visit, remember to have your ape/kong handlebar ready.

Hi Aragon, welcome. How about ride with the bar for awhile then see how it's handling to you. Shadow is a very comfy bike, the plushy seats and low riding height let not the bar alter it's comfy nature. Try it out first, if not right to you, change something that makes you and the bike right.

Persoanlly, i would prefer drag like posture. By leaning slightly fwd can makes me feel 'closer' to firmer handling. But that's me.

Hi guys..thanks for the advice. actually, I already feel comfy handling the bike. what i like to change is, the look of the bike and my posture when riding it.

as been pointed out, I like to lean front a bit when riding the bike. The current handle is quite laid back...Don feel enuff 'macho'..hehe..

But I won't compromise safety to looks. If I change the handlebar, and the handling is less stable and heavy, I won't change it. But if the handling would be pretty same, I definitely change the handle.

By what u guys saying, even I change the handlebar, the handling is pretty much the same, but need time to get used to..am I correct to say that??
