Distance used 100km

 

Took me about 70km to get rid of layer if wax in the middle and some of the sides. Comfort level is so far ok on straight road as well as over humps.

 

Given the radial design of the tyre the transition from left to right vice versa is smooth. It doesnt feel like you have to throw your bike to take a corner. This could be due to the absence of the apex which many other models have. The tyres invites you to go lower as u bank into the corners.

 

Tyre takes a short time to warm up. It takes mine about 1km +- to warm the tyre up to temperature. Grip is good on hot days, sticky in the corners and smooth on the straight. Wet weather performance is still not compromise. The water is well drained thru the thread to give the tyre a good reliable grip in the wet. Although it might be a little slippery cornering over the arrows(prob due to tyres not wear in yet).

 

Mileage on these set of tyres is not tested yet.

 

A bit squeaky over painted surface as you turn your tyres.

Shinko advance 005 "sport" tires.

 

Pros:

Low cost. Purchased at $250 from Planet Motors. Some class 2a tires cost more!

Predictable performance. Gentle sloping of the tire contact points mean that your bike will not dive into a corner. Of course some may not like this factor, liking it to having to force the bike to go down. But to each their own.

Long life. Maybe not the longest compared to sport touring tires out there, but quite long. Lets see if my pair will last me my guessed millage of 32,000km.

Average wet weather performance: well, better than the bt020s that i had on my old gsx. Should have gone with bt039s instead, but thats in the past.

 

Cons:

you cant dive into a corner. The gentle sloping will cause your rear to lose contact with the ground.

Wet performance is average. Some fellows may not like this, but for me, no tires are good in the rain. To each their own.

Not the best choice of tires if you want to go drag racing. Then again, if i could go 160mph on shinkos and suspensions that has yet to be calibrated to my body, thats more than enough, i think.

Bad rep. Not very fair, since these tires are quite good, but be prepared to hear fellows bad mouthing the tires. Especially annoying are those who never used shinkos before. Shops will try to convince you to part more money on michellins or other whatnots. Other riders will turn up their noses at you, saying youre a cheap ******* etc... which will lead to one more pro.

 

Pros pt 2:

Respect. Others will lose their **** when you out corner them, especially when they realize that you were using "only" shinkos. Do not dive, and you will be fine. Most fellows who run their mouth about using expensive tires usually dont even know how to corner correctly, thinking that diving = skill. Show them the error of their ways.

 

This is a review on the 005s. Even though its marketed as a sport tire, treat it as a sport touring tire and you will be fine.

 

I am very pleased so far. Maybe in the future, i will procure a pair of shinko 009 raven tires.

 

 

Oh, on an unrelated note, i will not be going for the penang trip. Will be quite busy for the next 3 months, so i dont think i will be mentally prepared for a long haul. One day trips, maybe.
