not sure if this is the right place to post this...anyway...here goes.

can you folks who are still having p-plates on your bikes please post some pictures of how you secure the plates? am curious especially when i read that many have their plates "fall" off their bikes. i'm wondering how that can happen. would appreciate pictures :-)

don't have any pictures with me where my plates are on but would help if you told us what your ride is and would be easier for us to reference

i ride a TA-200 Phantom.

Front p-plate is cable tied to just under my IU Unit and bottom is tucked just behind my head lamp

back is screwed onto the pillion back rest bolts

not feeling well now, if better later, i'll go down to take some pics.

thanks! did you secure yours with cable tie? i saw that tw200 picture too but it doesn't show how it was secured :-(

btw, did you get the plates from the petrol station? those at the petrol stations say "p-plate for motorcars".

alternatively, u can get the "paste it on" P plate. i pasted mine on the front mudguard and on the givi box behind my bike.my ride is TA150, similar in physical appearance with the TA200. i think most motordiam will have the "paste it on" P plate.

tw front can paste on above the headlight.

rear can just drill hole on the number plate and screw together.

act as a extention for mudguard.prevent water and chain oil kanna your shirt

best is to screw use special screw.not many ppl bring tools around.

pls get the approval P-plate

many ppl lost P-plate because got many ppl no $ to buy, steal yours.

my front is cable-tied down

rear is screwed on as mentioned.

have also seen some paste on to the front mud guard

mine seems to be for cars as it comes with that velcro thingy

so i guess no difference either for cars or bikes

important thing is to display it

not worth the first offence fine or worse still

2nd offence suspension/revoke

look at it as a badge of pride for all the hard work you have put into passing and obtaining your license! :)

the white bolder cannot trim off.

this is what i heard from my friends during yr 2000 when he kanna fine on p plate not standard size as he trim off the white parts.

dun feel shame on a p plate.its to let ppl know you are a new rider, inexperience and give way to you.

thanks for the information :-) at my age there is really nothing to be ashamed about :-) i am very happy to display whatever i need to display. i guess most people will stare at me when they see what i'm wearing...rather than those p-plates.

those p-plates in the petrol station are not stickers though...how do you stick it up on that part of the front cowling?

you can use dbl sided tape.small roll(can buy @ book store)

(3M prefer as sun and rain is on the bike.)

pasting small piece all round the plate(stronger holding)

OR

use adhesive velcro .1 side loop on cowling,1 side hook on p plate.

do make sure the place you going to stick is free from oil and dirt.(will not stick on this surface)

can be purchase @ mustafa or hard ware store.(3M prefer as sun and rain is on the bike.).(get the transparent type.waterproof on hook and loop)

daiso also got sell @ 2sgd.

thanks for the tips, guys! originally, i used the 3m tapes that came with the p-plates for the front. and the seller of the bike helped me to use a screw to secure the p-plate at the back with a double nut for security in case it falls off. i was warned that the plastic can break so i had to do something about the rear p-plate to prevent it from falling off.

i went back home and decided that the front was also not that secure as it is just 3m tape that is used normally inside cars (with no wind nor rain). so i used cable tie for the front now and it looks like this (not the nicest job but it will hold).

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/605806827_jonKN-M.jpg

i also used cut out a small piece of an old leather belt and put it between the p-plate and the metal plate for the rear. i think it looks like the plastic may last a little longer now as the leather takes away some of that pressure from the tight screw/nut. the plastic around the hole where the screw is isn't bending anymore :-)

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/605806993_J9xfw-M.jpg

also, i put a piece of plastic at the back between the two nuts to make it more secure so the nuts won't fall off even in bad vibrations...and hopefully will prevent some petty thieves from trying to remove the rear plate...of course they can also just break it off...sigh.

think this should hold the plates up for a year...or a few months at least. anyone knows how to keep them clean? mine are SO dirty already!

your rear pplate will drop off anytime. The plastic will age and be brittle suggest you get a board to reenforce it.

you mean in behind the screw on the front of the plate?

the white plastic of the p plate. after some time, it will will crack and your plate will run away on its own. i say fug the stupid plastic and get those stick on ones. if TP stop you and sees that he stopped a mature rider wearing all your gear, i confirm u 100% he will let u off~

i suggest you go and buy one from popular, a pvc plastic to be the backing for your p plate, cause the vibration+heat+ screw torque too tight on the plate will be the common factors of a missing Pplate.hehhe

One more thing , i saw a creative rider with a p-plate on a helmet, not the fugly ones that you use on bikes, but actually airbrushed to the back of the helmet l,with eye popping words below it stating , "amatuer rider, come and kill me".

Unfortunately, there really isn't any space on the rear of the TW200 to stick anything and still be visible. At the moment, it will have to be some kind of attachment under the rear number plate. Am not really worried about police stopping me at the moment. Just thinking of best way to keep that plate in place and still be visible for added visibility. It is super reflective!

I can imagine how that helmet would look :-)

About the PVC plastic backing. Wouldn't a hard plastic defeat the purpose? The whole point of putting leather as a backing was to reduce vibration and to take-up that screw torque...or so I thought?

ooo...i need to be careful then. so far they look ok to me...but then again, i've only had them for 5 days. another 360 days to go! i'll have to find some way to reinforce that plastic from vibrations and torque stress...hmmm...
