sianz. My bike's hits reserve like at 210km. Is it normal? Or is it bad?

my bike hits reserve at 245km

 

according to UK report, average shld at least do 17km/litre

 

and im doing tis,(first) travelling keeping speed 80km/h max

 

but(second) later i tried 80-100km/h still abt 17km/litre

 

 

so....hmm.... (third)now i trying pick up, trying miledge for pick up.. now 180km, bike abit jerky liao...tink going to hit reserve

 

so i conclude pick up fast = eat more petrol

 

but travelling at 100km/h, so long ur rpm below 6000 shld be fine, i.e 17km/litre

 

BTW, i use mobile or esso 95,

 

if i use 92 its abt 16km/litre for first n second situation

On the average, i ride about 90-110km on expressway

I'm working at raffles place.. thus everyday i meet the jam on CTE towards city.. esp when come home after 6pm

Travel on low gears, and my speeds is usually around 50-60km when i make my way home from the city.. again on CTE..

So i seriously have no idea what is wrong with my bike. My riding style or my bike. Since it hits reserve so fast. around 210.

Its the riding style...

 

I travel abt 240 when i first got my bike... but after adjusting my style, It can last me till 290 b4 reserve on a gd week!!! So far travelled up till 330 before puping, and still going strong...

Cause i do quite fast accerlation sometimes on the Expressway when squeezing during the peak hours.. Bo bain..

Other than that my average speed around 90-110km/hr leh..

So i've really no idea.. how do i adjust my riding style for a better milage?

Can to share how u ride?

high gear low speed = save alot of petrol

 

but no power

 

hmm......since u in traffic jam den bo pian liao

 

or go slwoly lor

 

i normally travel at 6th gear even at 30km/h!

 

coz i just serviced bike, so veyr smooth ma

 

last time i haven service i do abt 13-14km/litre

 

now the way i ride is traffic lights turn green n b4 5 4 lampost i already on 6th gear liao

Well, there's 2 impt thing here

 

1) Change Gear religiously at arnd 5k rpm, do not drag till 7k and abv. The more u drag, the faster your gas burn. I reckon 5k rpm is a gd point to up the gear for my bike. You may wanna try 4-4.5k if ur bike is powerful enough with the appropriate tuning.

 

2)Limiting the speed and acceleration. This is linked to pt 1. If you were to change gear at the stated rpm, your bike shd reach abt 90km on expressway at gear 6, and remain there! No harm gg at 100km/h on smooth traffic days and when uncle sam is not on the same e'way as u... Also, do not acelerate suddenly!

Whats wrong with an ST4? Its basically a Monster with fairings, so it is much more a sporty tourer than the ST11 or FJR, or STX, or Dullsville

 

Actually, the Monster S4 is an ST4 without fairings.
