Why under warranty dont let your bike shop do?

Polarbears:

Mitosis : Well dnt get stressed up....Just wondering what the max cost cld come to..logically....If need to spend $2K on overhaul....then mite as well get a new bike...But if u tink u love the current bike tat much then overhaul it...Nevertheless as for me....i'd rather get another bike....which has a slightly healthier engine...

Do not worry im just commenting, what is your train of thought for this? Not looking to pick a fight, just trying to understand a second point of view :)

Scene 1. Spend 2k and get same bike with new engine. And you know what parts u fixed what parts may be going.

Scene 2. Machine price 1.5k. insurance/road tax/transfer fees. Dont know engine condition (no matter how good still cant compare to 1 overhauled) dont know condition of everything else. Waste time doing transfers. Waste time troubleshooting 1 by 1 again.

To me, it just makes no financial sense or practical sense to buy a new bike when it costs almost the same to get a full overhaul.

Unless you are looking to upgrade soon and dont want the next owner to "earn" what u paid so much for. Then i understand :p

Am sori if my words sounded harsh....not picking a fight either...just my 2cents.....hehehe....Chill bro....:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

hi bro,

my temperature is noramally at the lowest (the needle didnt move) on the expressway (if i keep going on and on), but if i stop and go alot (traffic lights on normal roads), the needle at the most go to near the halfway mark, but that only happened once or twice. most of the time its about 1/4 level.

but i'm thinking of flushing coolant already. any place you can suggest? wanna go together?

:)

davidww81 : I think KS gt sell new adjustable one. but its not gonna be cheap. Well u can try yahoo auction or ebay to get 2nd hand kanata 750 rear shocks or msp type.

fleaz : spare part so relatively easy to get depending on how much u willing to spend. As Ferrous mention those 3 shops are sufficient.

slackbike: Flushing on coolant is about $20 depending on the coolant u change. Some shop req u to buy the whole bottle den it will be slightly more but u can change twice with 1 bottle so it depends.

cool....info posted useful to note

got another question for u guys...HKL offers BT090 for $240 with balancing(website)

how much would it cost agak2 for just replacing the front tyre and just replacing the back.

i'm planning to just change my front first cos threads look worn. i read somewhere front tyres wear out faster than back and it seems the case for me. so given that i just want to change the front, i wanna know how much so i wun get carrot-ted.

Great those guys who posted your bike temperatures, mind coming down to the bike shop i got my bike from with me on your g4s?

The mothercb mechanic insisted that hitting 80percent of the white zone on the expressway on a rainy day is normal.

That @%&%*&%&%

BT090 for rear alone is @ $150-160 if I aint wrong.

I don't know if that is your preferred choice of tyres cos it's the cheapest I could find. Hey while you're there, could you do us a favour and check if there are other Bridgestones that we could fit and their costings? BT014? BT020? These are normally seen on S4s but I thought their thread looks more convincing.

The rear will work off faster than the front buddy. The rear tyre is the driving force, so the friction it takes is a whole lot more. However, personal believe here (don't quote me), the front tyre should be given more emphasis if the threads are going off. Rear tyre botak, you'd skid but given your experience, I think you'd know what do to ease off the fishtails. But front tyre botak, chances are you'll get a nasty tankslapper and for myself, once I had that, I'll just cover my ears with both of my hands and say "Allah forgive me for all my sins. I'm coming back "home".

Bike temperature, on a hot day, going on normal traffic lighted routes, maximum you should reach is halfway mark.

If it hits 80% on any given day, lest you keep running on 2nd-3rd gear all the way, something is wrong with your system.

Chances are :-

1. Coolant level is not enough

2. Preferred coolant is not doing its job

3. Impeller in your radiator is not working properly

I seldom hear bikes changing the impellers. Normally they just change the whole radiator pump set (go 2nd hand please if you can get a decent one)

Tyres are cheap at HKL but I personally would not patronise them. Same goes for Ah boy.

Mitosis, i reckon you can ask the mech to go f-off and do your repairs at some other place. These shops will never get your bike fixed to a condition you will be happy with. And going back so many times will only be a hassle for you as well.

At HKL, it depends on which mechanic you patronize. Previously when I was riding my GSXR400R, I serviced my bike and changed my tyres there from Ah Keong. He was my Gixxer's mechanic for two years and in my opinion, he is OK. The only glitch is just that he tends to move from bike to bike while he was servicing my bike that I had to wait quite a while there...

Mitosis - yeah boy, i think just forget about going to confront the shop about the temp, it'll only work you up and end up still got to go find a place and solve the problem. the most important thing to do now is to cure the temp problem. anyway i'm also thinking of flushing my coolent at the end of the month (now till 27th si beh busy). anyone got any shop to recommend? can go tgr if bros dont mind. one bike go, the shop may anyhow do, more bikes they will know that if they anyhow do, we'll all boycott them. :) (innocent thought or not ah?)

Might wanna check if there is even coolant in the bike in the 1st place. Open the tank to access the coolant cap.

Check the coolant reservoir as well.(its under the pillion seat on the left side.)

If you have time you can always do your own flush and change of your coolant. Just get a bottle of waterwetter or maxima coolant and lots of distilled water from mustafa or other places and happy changing!
