Some bikes will have a "trap" bowl at the base of their fuel c@cks to collect sediments and rust, if your bike has that trap, you can open and check it for rust.

There are no other ways to deal with a rusty fuel tank other than treating the innard with cleaning, priming and coating it (expensive) or using a fuel filter (between the fuel tank and carby) its less expensive, needs checking, cleaning or replacement at regular intervals.

Another option as mentioned is replacing the fuel tank with a new one, or go plastic...no way for rust :cheer: .

Hi,

sorry for my bad english.

To remove the rust you can use citric acid,

mix is with water to 1:10 and fill the tank, turn three or four times a day. Do this for one or two days.

After you must add a lot of water 1:100 minimum and than you pour it in the sink,

take care its an acid !

After you can prevent rust with a special paint, here in germany that cost about 30-40 $.

Regards

Just a piece of mind, try keeping the fuel level full especially if you gonna leave the bike stationery for quite some time.

On average, every three days, 1 motorcyclist or a pillion die or is seriously injured in a traffic accident. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous enough. Riding recklessly is Suicidal.
