any bros care to share how to diy that?

like what paint to buy, roughly how much, how to remove pipe and how to remove rust effectively (complete removal) and efficiently (not much sweat involved).

by pipe, i mean the pipe linking the "dunno what" to the exhaust pipe, the "underneath" pipe.

apologies for bad description of the pipe.

my bike is x1r. thx.

U can buy rust remover from hardware shop,it's in a liquid form.. Apply to the rust area and it'll reacts and harden.. Sand it down evenly after that.. Dun ask me what is it or what kinda reaction,my chemisty fail..

If u are sending it from chrome I think the chrome shop will help u take care of the rust at additional cost. If not u can use hi-temp spray for ur pipe header.. Go see the sticky section.. Alternativly,u can buy exhaust wrap and cover it up..

Hope it helps

good old way.. take some aluminum foil (those BBQ wraps) rolled into ball, and rub the rust out..

cheap and effective way.. but not permanent removal..

I happen to do that once on my SV. Buy a potable battery powered Hand drill. Black and Decker, Bosch about $70 to $150 (depending on models) or some Closing Down sale shop, you might be able to get a China Made at ½ B&D price. Buy a scotch brit disc attachment and some sotch brite disc

I didn't remove my exhaust, So only manage to clean up the header... Armed with a tube of autosol, I sat at the carpark. After draining a fully charged batt... I managed to polish the light brownish header to a shiny stainless steel (not mirror finish though)... no Sweat...

@JackOhJack: Easiest way to get rid of rust is to get a rust converter from DIY store like HomeFix. Just brush on or spray on (be sure other parts of bike isn't affected). The rust will be converted to a matt black. This layer can act as a primer so you can spray on top of it.

i sanded and cleaned with thinner b4 spraying a few coats of high temp black paint, accomplished!
