Can Carburetors of same Size be used?

Hi, I was just wondering if any technically inclined people could help me with this.

 

Could i buy a 2nd hand Carburetor of size 25mm (for eg.) and use it on my bike (if say my bike is also using 25mm).

 

I do realize that changing to a different size Carburetor is a whole other matter.

 

The situation is that i would like to buy from another forumers his carburetor,

but what worries me is whether Carburetors, even of the same size cannot be interchanged on bikes. For example different series, different fits...

 

Wouldn't want to spend hundreds of dollars then realizing i can't use it (

There will be very little or no differnce between similar carbs which have the same size. If the other carb is a newer generation, for example a flatslide while the older carb is a roundslide, it will make a difference. Else i'd say you're just wasting money even if it fits

There may be clearance issues, overall dimension issues, carb boot fittings issues, etc.

 

Also, unless the "new" carb is of a different type (e.g. pumper carb or flat slide or FCR) vs your stock CV carb, there will not be much improvement.

You have to make sure the followings are the same with your original carb:

 

Size of the pilot jet

Size of the main jet

Size of the needle jet

Size of the jet needle

Float height (can be adjusted)
