Why does my bike (03 Aprilia RS125) feel like it's going to stall in gear 1 whenever I reach the biting point? Even if I open throttle slightly before releasing the clutch lever it feels like it will die when it reaches the biting point.

It hasn't been fiddled around with. The bike is completely stock except for the mirrors. Previous owner (the first owner) has only rode it for 3 months before switching over to a car and he hasn't done anything to it.

sound like water contamination in fuel tank n carb symptom.

drain tank n carb then pour back 98% fuel back coz water is heavy will sink to the bottom.

it's common if often pump at jb.

it's not an old wives tale, it's a true fact.

this is becoz jb stations dun up keep tank maintenance water level in their tanks.

water is always present in the station underground tanks.

i got to drain my tank n carb 4~5 times every yr.

probably this will happen if u ride single piston carb engine n alway ride till empty.

coz water is heavier than fuel, it's not a lot, 10 cc of water can choke the engine.

it wun happen to inline4 or efi engines, coz of multi-cylinders n force feed fuel.

most riders will probably dun know wat happen, simply push to a bike shop n tot it's engine trouble.

i didn't use one particular pump station near the causeway but had pump further away n away stations until i gave up.

^ That's happened to my father's car before when he stopped there for petrol on the way back from KL.

Ive never experienced this before, neither has any of my many friends who frequent JB for petrol.

Maybe they're maintaining the tanks better now or we're a lucky bunch? :pity:

Whatever it is, UPZ for awarness!

many riders dun know about this, when got engine problem, push to bike shop.

like TS case, bike shop claim it's a clutch/bearing fault.

lots of $$$ loss by riders, profits by bike shops unethical,

all the thanks to laziness of jb pump station staffs not doing their maintenance job.

i have been pumping in msia for so many times till i lost count... never had i experienced any difficulty nor has my bike given me any problem... none. anyway, my current ride is TA150 single cylinder 2 stroke engine.

petronas is a fuel supplier to some of the F1 teams, i always try to pump at petronas when in msia...

Class 2B - 26/03/2009

Class 2A - 01/06/2010

Class 3 - 10/07/2009

Rides(s)

1) Honda TA150 - 20/04/2009 to 31/08/2014

2) Honda CB400 Ver S - 12/07/2014 to ???

not questioning why i had the problem n u have not.

my habit is only to top up fuel when i had to turn on the fuelcock to reserve.

tat means my 16L fuel tank, every time i top up 15.4~15.7 liters which mean there r barely any fuel left in my tank.

since water is heavier than gasoline,

it will normally sink to the bottom n eventually flows down to the carb.

when it happens, i can start the engine without any problem.

only when i engage gear n throttle to move off, my bike wun move.

i dun know whether u ever use the reserve fuel portion of ur tank.

if ur tank is metal, water will corrode ur tank.

i did mention the water is not a lot, every time i did drain it out is just a few cc.

if u are draining through the stopcock..it is no use...

there is still some fuel left in the tank.--this is where the water accumulates..the best is to remove stopcock to ensure all the fuel is drain out..

or else symptom will come again..

other than fuel is bad from petrol station...check your fuel cap ..if park in the open water sometimes can get in after a down pour..

i will ride with reserve after top up...its a ks habit i suppose..for the next 50km or so..this is to flush out the settlement that is being agitated during the top up..hopefully this may clear some of the debri in the mixture..ie rust, water and whatever happens to be there.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

@mepkoh: that is a good practice. i did not use my reserve for the longest time and when i finally had to, there was enough stuff there going into the carb to cause the jet to get "stuck", then all the fuel just flow out from the overflow tube. ever since then, i use reserve now and then. but i think your way of using reserve immediately after pumping for 50km makes a lot of sense!
