Hot or Cold Plugs for Racing

Again, i am confused abt hot or cold plugs for racing...

If anyone can share, i think it is viable for us riders weather on tracks or on roads.

i have read up on about plugs.Hot and cold..but being less educated in proper english, i hope someone can enlighten me in simpler english..thanks.

what i meant is applications for our machines ie: CL2 race bikes.

will after-market iridium plugs have an effect on our pistons/combustion chambers during high revs??

If I'm not wrong, Cold plug is more suitable for race applications.

Cold type spark plugs are harder to retain heat, that means they won't fail due to extreme temperatures under higher revolution.

Hot type plugs are used on normal cars/bikes because they hit up more easily, so they will burn off carbon deposits for cleaner combustion under low temperatures.

Gnayed is spot on.

Unless you plan to do some HEAVY mods, you should not go too far off the OEM heat range.

And by Heavy, I mean MSS Superbike Open type mods, Superstock and Supersport mods should see no big change.

The heat range of the plug has almost no effect on the running temperature of the engine.

The best way to find out is to look at the spark plugs and "read" them.

Do a search on Wiki.

there was once a theory tat, though iridium plugs produce a better "SPARK"....

but the compression ratio in the cylinder reduces due to the spark plug shape.

this is one of the "They say" theories.

but if u look at racing plugs, they have a big flat base which is the node, unlike a small little rod in the OEM plugs. but 4 plugs at a cost about 400 sing dollars, and not designed to last,.......think about it

Don't just break your laptimes, SHATTER them!!
