Hi, im a newbie here & a proud owner of possibly the ugliest st11 on earth. Hehe. Its a matt black 96' with no fairings & all cos ex owner got into an accident. So far the best bike ive ridden in years! Loved the smooth feeling.

My bike is parked at planet today(sun) cos theres an oil leak that i saw near the under belly.

Anyone can advise me what would be the possible cause? I assume i need to overhaul the engine?

Hi. What I'll suggest is that u wipe clean the wet area. Ride ur bike for a while and looks for the leaks. I had a similar pblm few week ago and it the gasket from the gear shifter that leak. Jus sent ur bike to any shop to get it change without overhaul. Hope its the same pblm I've encountered.

Yeah bike at planet now doing major servicing & so far no calls from Ah chong so thats good news ; )

you had do ti yourself diy, a few $ oil seal from fjt take out old one and replace the new one by hand make tool look like allen key .

No no, the last time I did that to my Ta200, ive busted the engine lols. So i dun trust myself with engines.

The last time i had this it was due to a leak in the gasket from the spark plug cam cover or whatever its called. Just changed gaskets both sides and no more leak. apparently it leaks slowly and trickle down the side of the engine block and goes down the bottom of the belly pan where you see spots on the floor.

Thats exactly what happened & spot on u got that right dude. Cant wait for the bike to be up & running.

Dear ST old bird, i am quite concern about the temperature of my ST that will shoot up to 3/4, then when the fan kicks in it will hover at between half and 3/4 mark. I can feel the great heat evolving from the engine. I had just changed the water piping system but the indicator from the temperature gauge make me worried. Does anyone has the similar problem or is it normal for ST bike temperature to be so high ? Wonder if this kind of condition is suitable for any long journey ride? Hope to hear from experienced ST owners thanks a lot ....

Hi, this happened to my vara 1k, i got the thermostat replaced so the fan kicked in at a lower temp than usual. Engine never hit half after that. Just my 2 cents. Other than that seniors here should know wat to advise.

Perhaps you are right. May I know how much do you spend for the thermostat replacement? I should also check with a mechanic also if this helps...

Most probabaly Thermostat and radiator cap( might as well change since you at it). Also your coolant hoses below carb if the bike is very old, be prepare to change . Wear and tear will cause it to crack and leak coolant out.

I had just changed the hoses, bro. But temperature still goes as high as 3/4 and hovering between 3/4 n high mark. I wonder will it help if replaced the thermostat. By the way, anyone out there can advice the price to replace a thermostat? Cheers...anyway appreciate your advice cbkooky...

If your ST is the US model then not advisable to change to S4 thermostat. Cause coil charging is slow and fan kicks in early so power drain faster.

I AM BACK!!!!!

Hi bro, just went down to the mechanic and change the thermostat. The cooling system now seem better. Never exceed half. According to my mechanic it replace one which trigger to activate the cooling fan at 80 degrees Celsius comparing to the previous one at 100.

Then, went down to ah boy there to change my handle grip and balancers. But, the handle grip was too short for my ST handle bar, some of the metal is exposed- so ugly....sigh...no choice just use it first...anyone got good recommendation what handle grip is good for ST?

This racing boy grip too hard and can be painful after long ride. Heard the BM grip is good...any comment?

Hi Seniors, I need your experience and advise again on this clutch problem. My is a 2003 ST1100. When its stuck in a jam or riding at very slow speed and the temperature went above half mark, the clutch feel spongy and engine RPM drop and it stall easily. It back to normal when i ride on the normal speed and temperature drop back to below half.
