clutch cover housing leaking, just change the gasket will do, can be done at most workshops.

try not to leave town for over days, monitor engine oil level daily.

FunkyChicken,

yes, engine oil will drain out once clutch cover is removed, u need to replace it.

this task can be done by any qualified mechanic or DIY expert.....

Hi guys, I would like the experts here for some questions about the cost of owning and maintaining an ST11.

1. I know fuel consumption for a full tank (28L) can go around 450-480KM, so is like 16-18KM/L

2. Road tax per year is about 400 plus?

3. What is monthly maintenance like?

changing EO (4 bottles?)

change shaft if used for long

4. insurance per year for age of 24 yrs old?

5. My built is just great on an ST11.

6. Roughly a price of a FS plate ST11?

Thanks for ur info. in advance

1. I know fuel consumption for a full tank (28L) can go around 450-480KM, so is like 16-18KM/L

- depending on her current condition, ur riding habit & etc.. to get average fuel consumption.

2. Road tax per year is about 400 plus?

- less than $400, think is $380, cant remember.. ! :D

3. What is monthly maintenance like?

changing EO (4 bottles?) - ur choice of lub x 4btls, use only 3.70ltr(with new oil filter replaced).

change shaft if used for long - no specific indication for replacement but will need to inspect bush-joint freeplay if rattling sound heard.

4. insurance per year for age of 24 yrs old?

- 3rd party FT should be..... dunooo... btw NTUC provide the lowest premium.

5. My built is just great on an ST11.

- good lah..

6. Roughly a price of a FS plate ST11?

- shop around, u should be able to get an average price range.

let us know if u need more info..

Great... Thanks for prompt information. Will try to keep a look out for one ;)

BTW, what should I look up for when I buy a 2nd hand ST11?

E.g. check for fork oil leak, shaft making noise, etc ?

Is that any different between ST11 between year 1998-2005? Does it really have great feature differences?

Thanks for your info. :thumb: :help: :thumb:

I am no expect in what to look for when buying 2nd hand ST, so I cannot help you on this. Just FYI, I saw two ST11 at Southern at Alexandra Village, you might want to go take a look.

i'm no expert too, in fact just got mine 1 month plus... wat i can share:

1. I know fuel consumption for a full tank (28L) can go around 450-480KM, so is like 16-18KM/L

i ride mine a little harder, regularly going 4k-5k rpm around SG, but still manage 15Km/L...

2. Road tax per year is about 400 plus?

$186 for half year

3. What is monthly maintenance like?

in general its slightly above average, unless got big maintenance jobs like timing belt/clutch/etc.. this one ask the experts better

4. insurance per year for age of 24 yrs old?

yours probably quite high for 3rd PFT... >$800 i think, and i think AXA is the cheapest now.. NTUC recently upped their premiums in Oct 05.

6. Roughly a price of a FS plate ST11?

many factors, but now roughly... from bikeshop around $12K.. private owner around $10K... +/- $1k

i saw 2 ST11 at Sin Boon, the FT plate one going at $13K... they have an FJR1300 too...

good luck with your search...

So apart from changing engine oil every 5000km (using fully syn?), check coolant level, change shaft (hmm how much for one shaft?), carb syn and tunning (if needed).. what kind of unexpected repairs can you anticipate?

Thanks again ;) :cheer: :cheer:

yo simon! had my gasket fixed at my dad's fren workshop at eunos "sari motoring".

the gasket cost me $9 at fjt, 4 bottles of 300v at $100 (bit ex), and a token of $20 to my dad's fren for lettin me use his tools and guiding me when im stuck wif the tight bolts and nuts!! hahahhaha

FunkyChicken,

clearing up gasket is never an easy task.. the leak could be due to many factors, but then ST1100 was proven one of the most reliable touring machine. ;)

other things u got to look out for r the cam cover gaskets, coolant hoses(especially inner hoses & reservoir tube) & final drive axel. see ur total mileage if u need to replace ur timing belt, it should be done within 100K-150Kkm.

well done man...! :thumb:

u've earned a valuable experience of clearing this plm, maybe sometime later during our DIY session u could 'expose' ur skill to let us all learn..

AIG do provide cheaper premium for car insurance but it depends on your occupation, and it is true that it can be cheaper by a couple of hundred. However AIG do not provide coverage for bike.
