When I run in mine, I rode less than 120kmh for the 1st 1000km. Hit the 1000km mark already then I rode a bit faster and played with the rev. Changed the engine oil and filter again when my mileage hit 2000km and 3000km.

Urs is 1st hand ST is it?

FunckyChicken,

they r located just beneath ur throttle, right side of the tank. there r 2 stem of wire, one of them is for ignition.

hi all ST bro, can someone enlighten me on how to run in the ST?

thanks in advance...

[momo]

I did the 'kiasu' way...

0-300km - travel less than 80km/h, rpm never exceed 3000.

300-800km - speed increased to 100km/h, rpm never exceed 3200.

800-1300km - I rode below 120km/h, rpm never exceed 3500.

above were done on NSHW(80%) so call the 'top run in'. :D thereafter I concentrate on meshing the gears in town.

from 1300km I switched to synthethic engine oil & regular oil replacement at less than 8000km. each time I could see metal fillings around the brim on the oil filter, I gradually increase engine oil service interval to approximately 10-11,000km when I could hardly see any.

Hi ST owners,

I'm thinking about upgrading to a ST soon. I have been looking around for some possible good buys around and I need some help with the following questions:

- What's the difference (in performance or specs) bt the X and Y model

- What's the average maintenance (just the usual necessary servicing) for the ST.

- What are the mileage that require a "more major" servicing, such as change those standard spares like timing belt, alternator, pumps etc. (Correct me if I'm wrong is 70-80k km a time of major component change?)

- Is it advisable to consider buying older STs with high mileage (>80k km) if no spares have been changed before.

Thank you so much for your reading and advise.

~blueflame~,

within recent 10years P.E. specs r all the same, model code indicates year to year manufacture only.

ST1100 general maintenance more or less the same with S4 except that ST1100 require slightly more lubricant of 3.7ltr of engine oil(E.O.) each time.

major component replacement consist of timing belt within 150,000km from 100,000km that require physical inspection for it's condition, other general component r subjective to it's current condition.

high mileage... :D depends on how the owner use the bike lor...

Thanks for your info! Appreciate that.

Just in case you come across a reasonable condition ST at a reasonable price, would you kindly refer him to me? Thanks!

hi, anyone know how much is the original windshield n where to get?

willing to wait if require to order...

momo,

Original windshield can get from a few places. Boon Siew quoted me $500++ for the original windshield, whereas Chong Aik quoted me $400++ for one.

Alternatively, you could get after market winshield from Motorworld which cost not more than $300, or you could ask bikeworkz at Dunlop st for one. It looks like an original windshield except that the windshield is higher by about an inch / 2 inch. Forget already. but i saw the windshield before. It is in clear.

On the left hand side of the motor, above / beside the oil filter. You have to remove a metal shield before you cab access the starter motor proper.

Yo momo,

From wat I know the price of original windshield is more expensive than aftermarket windshield(MRA) Price abt $260. Why not get the MRA.
