Bro,

When I move off, everything was ok. While at the expressway, I pressed the rear brake then the pedal went all the way down and bike felt heavy. I continue to ride thats when the whole thing happened.

oh... so you managed to move after the fire ? or called tow truck ?

any investigation of pump failure ? brake shifter stuck ? or just corroded screw ?

could have been any of us.. pls let us know so we can check our rides too.

oh when you mentioned this...definately it's not the corroded screws...

it seems like hydraulic malfunction to me....that is rare case...but it does happen when it happens....it just happens...so it's not happening when something like that happens....shite happens!

It's so strange when sometimes people thought that if you don't do offroading, you really takes good care of your bike, maintainance by the book...always the typical kiasuism of having the bike for the periodic maintainance of valve check, tps check, whatever craps, nothing like that could happen to you...

And some people do judge that when someone trashes the bike, just the type of person oil and gas then ride on....offroads...bike will kaput...eventually...it did'nt...

Strange strange world iss'nt it?

I suspect the brake caliper pistons seized when you depressed the brake lever. Usually as part of brake caliper maintenance, good mechs will remove the pads and sand them. Clean up the caliper pistons as alot of stuff gets trapped there. Then they will apply good copper grease before pushing them back into the caliper housing. The pins could be another cause too. I don't think its the pump unless your brake lever linkages are jammed up. You probably need the rear caliper, brake hose, pads and the disc.

Hi to all,

My rear brake pump busted/spoilt/f**ked and caused my calipers to clamp tight on the rear disc. All these happening while riding at CTE (dont worry, slow speed due to heavy traffic

Anyone knows the recent prices of the parts? Rear calipers, rear brake pump and also rear disc??

I feel for u and my ex-baby dude.

Have u ever CHECK or CHANGE the brake pads ever since u took over the bike?

Usually as a rule of thumb, when i take over a bike. I would change the basic stuffs first even though the previous owner have change them earlier, eg. EO, filter, sprockets, chain, brake pads, brake oil, Coolant, tyres and etc.

Just to keep my mind at ease. :)

Suspects:

1) Your rear brake pads may already been thining or

2) Rear brake oil seal already wear/tear or

3) Rear brake oil low or

4) The 2 caliper screws already corroded or

5) All of the above

I don't believe it is the brake pump... BUT it could be...

Sometimes this kinda thing suddenly happens... like AJ says, "Sh*t happens".

It reminds me when going to touring with Boon and the others to Koh Samui.

Already reach hatyai suddenly Boon bike can't start.

Suspect battery... change battery but the same.. suddenly found the whole magneto coil burnt out.

Luckily still able to complete the whole journey and make it back one piece.

Last few days, saw ur bike at KKH. Ur wife expecting already?

Hi to all,

Bike back from shop. Things done:

1. New rear brake pads

2. New rear brake pump kit

3. Serviced the rear calipers (still can be used after the incident but braking power not 100%. using it temporarily until new caliper comes)

4. Re-used the disc brake but sent it for skimming due to the rough surface from the melted brake pad)

Do you know what the damage ($) for your rear caliper...

I've just replace the rear brake pad (DIY), found that one of the screw thread holding the caliper is gone... Either need to re-thread it or change the whole new caliper...

I've change the screw back in Aug 10, apply thick grease before tighten it back...

When I remove it to change the brake pad, the screw became rusty and near get stuck again... This small little screw might jam your brake... Design failure...

Bro,

I serviced the caliper at $75. Change the o-rings and clean the caliper. I called up HL and told me a new set of rear calipers cost $360 exluding other misc costs. Its damn expensive but no choice. Currently no stock, so need to order. Will take some time.. I will be going down to HL these few days.

OMG... $360... Can get aftermarket one or order from oversea (can get help from Kmax) ?

Not sure if there is any aftermarket calipers. Maybe bro kmax can assist to give some advice.

Anyway, if you are referring to the 2 big screws on the rear calipers, I believed its a well known design failure. Mine is almost rounded when the mechs tried to unscrew them out. Looks like no choice but to spray WD40 more often..

I've tried spraying WD40 plus thick thick grease also rusty...

As for the screw material very weak... Even a new one after tighten started to show sign of rounding... Weak head...

Bro,

Good price for the calipers. If the condition is good, I might consider that as an option. But can it fit an '04 model considering the fact that the calipers is from an '08 model?

fitting should be fine.. can also check in spare parts catalog... let me search and download.

condition ? have to believe what we see on ebay.. it's second hand part from scrap bike.. so it's up to you bro.
