Which bike to buy?

Hi all,

 

I'm planning to get a new bike for commuting to work everyday, therefore it needs to be reliable, safe and comfortable. Budget is about $25k.

 

Currently the 2 models that I'm considering are the HD Iron 883 and the BMW F650GS. Sports bikes are out since they are stressful on the wrists and back.

 

Suggestions will be much appreciated.

From your 2 choices, i would go with the BMW. Your colleagues and clients will know that you are successful because its a BMW. Same thing why rich businessmen must DIE DIE drive mercs or BMW that kind of thing.

the BMW specs is better but there seems to have alot of poor feedback on PML's aftersales service

Besides commuting, what else do you plan to use the bike for? Long or short tours? Off-road riding? Do you need luggage capacity? Do you intend to modify anything?

 

Some things you might want to consider before deciding. I presume you have a separate budget for maintenance and insurance?

It'll basically be used for commuting, and maybe short tours, and able to take kerbs better.

I think the main factors will be reliability and comfort and durability, dats why I'm considering the F650GS,enduro kind of bike, since I find it to be quite maneuverable in traffic, high riding posture, etc.. and brand also

 

Any other enduro kind that i can look into?

Brand is the factor here.. But if you are ok with the maintenance a BMW is giving you yearly then go on ahead and buy one.. It is certainly a good machine..

Ya but the Ducati Multistrada is way off the 25k budget I think. How about considering the Hypermotard instead?

I thought about the KTM supermoto 990T also, but the price about high $20k leh.

It is better than the F650GS? Don't seem to have ABS, if it helps....

Well if he can afford it I think having a bike he can look forward to when commuting to and from work everyday would be great.

If you can get the 990 SMT do so, it looks like a fantastic bike. I would much prefer it over the GS if of-road capability is not an issue. ABS is not an issue if you ride mostly in singapore. The bikes you're considering have more than enough stopping power at local speeds and locking the front wheel isn't likely IMO.

 

Oh, if I'm not wrong if you go with the Iron 883 you may have to wait awhile for the bike to come, HD doesn't keep much stock here.

Another option is the Ducati Hypermotard 795, as it is new, most of the reviews out there seems pretty positive.

Any comments on Ducatis in Spore? Heard that parts are a hussle to get and must order and wait long long, is it true?
