i bought my bike brand new and now its mileage is 100K ++

i would say the price of buying a harley is almost similar to jap class 2 bike if you buy a sportster. REGULAR maintenance i would say is comparable to jap bike too, unless you choose to send it to dealer which will be slightly more ex as their labour not cheap. Then when your bike mileage went above 70k, then the serious money comes in.

problems such as burn stator (recharge ur batt) $300, engine cover gasket $240 change (leaking), clutch hub $280 (1 tooth broke), flywheel replacement $2500 (1 small bushing wear out, yes 1 small bushing wear out and i gotta change the whole damn flywheel) will burn a big hole in your pocket. these does not incl the misc parts change when i service those items above. fyi when i change the flywheel the total bill add up to about $4k.

if ur harley not intended to be riden long and hard u can consider it...btw i'm riding a sportster

Had own different makes of bikes but never got tired of riding Harleys.

Am on my 5th Harley and currently own the XR1200.

Power and road handling wise, the best i have had so far for a Harley.

Mainteance cost depends on what you are comparing to.. would rate it as reasonable or in fact cheaper if you compare to the other premium brands like the ducati or BMWs'.

Sportster mainteance should be close to Japs class 2 bikes in my opinion.

yup u are right mate...

Regular maintanence like EO change are affordable...

I do a oil filter change everytime I change my EO (it can be change on the 2nd round of eo)

Oil Filter (matt) S$23

HD Mineral oil S$15+ per bttl

Transmission oil S$20+ (to be change aft every 3rd or 4th oil change; for sporty only)

Other Reputable brands of mineral EO S$18 onwards (Motorex, Belray etc)

Other Reputable brands of Syn EO S$18 onwards (Agip TEC 15w50:thumb:)

Gold HD Spark Plugs S$12 each I think

Think maintenace wise is more or less there...

Accessories & engine parts are readily available over the net like Ebay but do check that U get the correct parts.

I got a few down the bin because of wrong parts...lol

HD stock Belt Ebay S$300 with shipping (just change as i busted mine)

HD stock Belt Agent S$440

Aftermarket belt.... Think rather go for orginial...

HD Stock Battery around $260

aftermarket Yusua Battery $150 (not recommend though)

I have quite a handful of experience with parts pricing as I been sourcing & doing up my ride...

So need any help just find me lah...

I even have extra spares laying around at home like pulleys etc...

Cheers!!!

Regards

Steven

Good question mate...

It is not easy to tell when nid to do a belt change...

Actually quite impossible to tell...

Less there is sound from the belt area (screeching soound etc)

or there is cracking on the belt surface...

else gt 2 wait for it 2 snap... (touchwood...)

I snap mine while dragging along Hougang Ave 2 ...lol

BTW best to keep a spare belt like wat i do....

Cling wrap the belt to avoid contact with the environment

If u want security, change the current belt (source it from Ebay way way cheaper), keep current belt as spare (wash it & "lube" it with armourall leather care as told by a seasoned Harley rider...

where do u service your ride or still looking for a mech??

Any info u can get from the previous owner like receipts etc?

Cheers!!!
