my chain had been the same old chain for the past 5 years. sometimes i heard the chiping sounds when i move my bike, sometimes after awhile or the next day, it just disappear, what does it means? time to change? as for the slack, i think i can put one and half finger in between the gap when i pull and lift it up.

check for chain wear...pull chains away fro rear sprocket...movement more than 5 mm...basket case.

need to replace chains if not accident waiting to happen..

get a chain oiler..your chain maintenace will probably reduced drastically ..in terms of time and money.

i love my ezzyoiler

i cannot see any chain wear. my whole chain had been oiled in black engine oil/or some oil of some kind.

its just pitch black, i dont see any scars on the sprocket as well. however the chain connect is completely mono, orange colored (those plate that connect chain tgt). i wonder if they are rust or its the natural cosmetic color of the connector.

mechanic just tightened my chain when i tell them of the bird chirping. so theres no free play.. seems very tight now.. not sure if too tight anot in fact.

chain wear cannot be seen..without the physical check procedure.

chain wear has to be check by pulling it at the rear sprocket..detect any movement..check for the displacement..

No displacement at all when I try to pull it away from the rear sprocket. Tight and firm

ifs that the case...chain detioration is expected...even when in lay up....

give it a thorough cleaning...you will find it a very unpleasant experience.

a clean up will remove the grimes of past years.

with a clean chain then you check for chain wear....chain tension ..etc

as you do not have the history of the chain..this is what i will do...

as you mentioned under layup for so many years...checking for chain wear without cleaning it is a waste of time.

i expect the chain to be kinked..dead links..etc with all the debri and wear and tear..esp when bike is exposed to the elements...for so many years..

if you do nothing ...your ride and chains will be terrible...and unsafe too.

if you hneed help...come and we can discuss whats the best way to overcome any chains issues..

i hope you have seek advise what to do...with a long layup bike...esp the engine...just ride it without doing anything is not the way..

Hi guys. Want to know sth. If the DID chain says 520 on the side of the chain, does it mean there's only one spec of 520 DID chain or under the 520 chain have even more variations still?

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...
