Hi, new generation bike are all high rev in nature as the engine are basically r6 engine. If you want the actual useful power, keep the rev above 7k. You'll be suprise the consumption will be better too as the moment of ineatial of the weight is overcome. Since already stuck with it might as well enjoy it than dwelling on it. Imagine I use to ride a zx10r and now I'm riding a xj6.

By the way, had you run-in the bike? As a matter of fact, bike will only preforms "normally" after abt 3K to 5K Km.

Just a few common tricks :

1) If you want faster pick-up, +2 teeth to your real sprocket. (But u'll lost out in top end.)

2) If you want better top speed, -2 teeth to your real sprocket. ( but u'll lost out in pick up.)

3) If you really want overall increase in HP. Change the exhust (full system), change to R6 cam shaft and change to bigger injector and had your PC re-mapped. (but u have to be very loaded to do this.

4)Nothings help....ride till u break even and change another bike.

As a XJ6 rider i certainly hope u don't choose option 4.

Cheers.......

Nice clone account... but you may have a point there...

Comparing the specs of a FZ6 and a XJ6 from the yamaha catalogue 2009.

FZ6-S

Power: 72kW @12k RPM

Fuel capacity: 19.4l

Dry Weight: 186kg

XJ6-S

57kW @10k RPM

Fuel capacity: 17.3l

Dry weight: 211kg

Hmmmm.... 15kW less power at 2000 RPM less, with a smaller fuel tank and heavier.... i hope that translates into better fuel consumption... but not really so it seems as xjsicks describes....

But the deciding factor for me would be the price. XJ6 costs $14.5k OTR wheras a second hand FZ6 2008 would cost $10k.... Cheaper and more powerful... I like the styling of the xj6 and its something different from the FAZER that every mother's son owns....but a FAZER would be the more practical choice....

Just my small 2 cents.

Really??? XJ6 is also an detuned r6 engine?? They must have really took the wind out of its sails then.... BIKE magazine UK also describes this bike to be fairy decent ride... just that one has to rev high to access the power.

Yes. The fz6 are base on the r6 engine and the xj6 are base on fz6, but with different set of cam shaft and combustion chamber. Clutch system also redesign. The thing is it's still r6 base as it was a proven engine.

The HP loss are at the top end but than ask youself this, you redline everytime and every gear you ride? At the end don't be blind by the HP figure, should choose what's suit your daily application.

so far what do you think of the XJ6's performance and handling on singapore roads?

To be frank, if you're talking abt daily commuting it's more than enough. If u're thinking of out running a sport bike or sport car, than go get a liter sport bike. Xj6 are not for sport performance, it's a touring bike. For me on sg road I think it's good enough.

According to Excel FZ6 or Fazer 6 are no longer in production (Not sure if it's true). After all the left over new units in SG are sold out, You can only get XJ6 as this is the replacement model for FZ6. (Check the Agent web, for 2010, FZ6 is not in the line up anymore). So there'll be second hand unit, just a matter of time.

P.S:

Yes, XJ6 may be overprice ( infact, that's bcos yen were at all time low when the agent bring in FZ6), overweight, over.....but it's the lastest model at least for now right? , and at least to me it looks sporty too.

Note:

All are personal and quoted opinion, no offence to FZ6 rider out there. I certainly do not want to start a war with FZ6 rider out there. We're under the YAMAHA family and shared the same DNA just looks and charater are diff. Just go to the web and search for XJ6 review, you'll see it's bulit for certain reason and not to suppress other models.

nice to see such passionate individual for this bike. Yes one man's poison is another's meat. Diviie styling actually looks much nicer than the fazer... But it'll be quite some time before the divvie replaces it.

Yup. Usually people will go for higher HP, lower weight and alloy frame bike. Even if fz6 is still on production , the next batch may cost higher than xj6. Just guessing.

You might be right.... 2010's R6 is way more expensive than 2009's version.

2009 the last model for FZ/Fazer 6, either they build a few that yr for sale or its production stretch till this yr before calling it a day. Now FZ/Fazer 6 been replace by FZ/Fazer 8.

Yes, XJ6 engine inherit from YZF-R6 but further de-tuned for low/mid-range... from spec we can expect power to arrive earlier.

Has yet ride one, but would like to experience the throttle response as well as acceleration from stationary. :thumb:

So far how's the fuel consumption rate?

Min 18km/liter not bad... u still cruising below 5000+RPM rite? Approximate speed below 90KM/HR? *Do monitor your tire pressure too, as it would affect your fuel consumption as well.

18km/liter * Full tank (17.5) = 315KM *not bad till now.
