Faulty IU Unit

Hi guys, I've got a few questions to ask and I hope you guys can help me out here. My IU Unit got spoilt a few days ago and I only noticed it before I went through the ERP at Nicoll Highway towards Suntec City.I stopped at the bus stop and inserted my Cashcard several times but it did not read and I tried another cashcard and same problem.(I double checked with my friend's IU unit and it works) I had no choice but to just go through the gantry. It happened again on the same day when I went past CTE towards AMK.

 

This incident happened on 1st July and until now, there has been no letters or fines when I checked AXS/SAM machine.So was I let off? If a fine was to be issued, can I appeal?

 

If I'm not mistaken, the only place to fix my IU unit is at Vicom inspection centers?

wait for the letter to ask you to go for IU inspection at Vicom. over there they would check whether you IU is working or not. if it is not working you would have to change to the new slim IU which is $150+ if i am not mistaken. but if your old IU is still under warranty then they would change the new one for free.

If you wait, you be restricted in the usage of the bike.

 

One way is to call LTA and check on the status as they are able to tell you immediately.

 

As you wait, your IU warranty is also ticking away. That wait could mean a difference of $160.50.

 

Even if you get it replaced now, and the LTA letter for ERP infringement comes latter, just used the receipt of the new IU as proof that the original IU was defective.

a letter from LTA will come in a week time requiring u to go to u're nearest inspection centre....once verified IU unit faulty, u'll only required to pay outstanding ERP charges without any fine....

As for IU unit....warranty is 5 years, within warranty, free replacement, else $150 before gst....

there isn't warranty slip..

u can ask them to check for u at the inspection center for the validity of the warranty..

my iu spoilt last yr or so, it's able to read my cash card, but go thru gantry never deduct. got a letter few weeks later, asked to go viacom check, found iu spoilt and replace foc since under warranty. never had to pay for the ERP charge.

Call LTA to check for your IU warrenty Status once confirm head to Vicom directly to check whether your IU is faulty or not, if yes with warrenty 1 to 1 exchange, if not pay $$.

 

do take note some Vicom are strict over outlook of IU some are more flexable.

bros, my IU unit got spoilt during the recent heavy rain. when I insert cashcard it gives error beep and the blinking red light but the screen display is blank. the question is i bought my bike 2nd hand if the iu still under warranty, can i still get a new one for free?

if u never modify it in anyway, under warranty can get free.

if they found u mod it n caused it to spoilt, maybe need pay.

No such thing as restricted usage of your bike... just ride your bike normally.

hey guys, my IU unit got spoilt and i just recently paid the $150+ to get it changed. that was about 2 months ago. and now i decided to change my bike. but the bike that i have already reserved, the IU unit is not in good condition. i asked the shop to do a change of IU but they said it is not possible to do so. so my question is is there a way where i can call vicom register or de-register the vehicle? thanks!

The bike with the new IU, are you going to deregister(Scrap) it? If yes, then you need to inform LTA that you are going to keep the IU which will be fixed to another new bike. You also need to to for inspection after fixing up the new IU.

thanks three! the old bike with the new IU is an nsr150 sp and the new bike with the spoilt IU is a rxz.. the sp is goin to be scraped but the shop says that dey will do it.. so do i have to go and de-register myself or shall the shop do it?

If you let the bike shop to deregister it, chances are they are going to take the whole bike and sell the parts, including your new IU. You got to be very clear with them that you are keeping the IU Unit. No such thing as IU must be scrapped with the bike.

 

Call up LTA and find out the exact procedure to swap IU unit. I did that months ago, can't really recall the proper way.

Or the easier part would be to get your bike shop to swap the IU units and handle the necessary procedures for you. No such thing as 'not possible'.
