Hi.

I was going thru the forum and came across the following thread.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index....02&f=28&t=98521

Not sure if this is a concern as there are limited discussion on the above topic, however, would like to hear from owners of expensive bikes(Harleys...etc) especially those who resides in HDB estates if there's any practical advice on how they protect their rides from theft or vandalism.

Thx.

HDB dweller & potential owner of an audible "Exhaust Note" bike.

Thanks.

To be precise, I was polling for the collective wisdom of HD riders in this forum especially those who park overnight in an open public carpark which I am about to do the same.

Can you share your experiences whether I am being paranoid(you have been there done that) or unpleasant things do happen - perhaps cause by neighbors who could not tolerate the deep rumble of our beloved machine.

How I wish I could buy a HD and upgrade to a landed property...not necessarily in that order.

Sighhh...

I live in a HDB estate and ride a Sportster. Security is also a concern.

I think (or hope) my neighbourhood is fine in general. I used to own a BMW, no problems for 5 years. Once I parked at my friend's place (open carpark), someone dented my fuel tank. weep:

Thought of getting an alarm, but I guess it wouldn't help if someone just came and vandalise your bike and walk away. So I let that idea rest. However, it might help if they try to steal your parts. When I had an Intruder 400, someone did steal my mirrors before, cost me $80.

well... all the protection is better than none.....

I was thinking of security bolts.... sure they are around....in different sizes too... may be a good idea since accessories are so freaking exp..... for me... i will aim my camera at where i park..... so...at least got chance to catch the person......

The security guard of my relative’s condo told me a Harley got scratched on the tank when parked at the condo’s multi story carpark.

Probably from kids playing with the bike or some jealous neighbour

My last bike got “vandalized” by some kid/s before, small hand and finger prints all over my tank, handle bar, grip with chocolate flavour. I believed those parents or maids around my place let their kid/s to ride on my bike as if a FOC coin operated amusement park bike.

I never fail to put bike cover during the weekends or school holidays since then.

I guys even tho i ride a 400cc but my original mirrors kena stolen also!!

Cheapskate moron..............

Anyway now I cover with Canvas. Not just cover but i use long wire lock to

kinda chain it. U noe those covers have 2pairs of eyelet hole at bottom front and 2 pairs at bottom rear.

Even tho u cover it but someone can just uncover it too.

Well kinda troublesome, but its worth it :goodluck:

Take note: even the parking warden dun bother ur bike

Was just reading this thread and thought I'd share my experience.

I had parked my bike outside my place with a cover on, and within a period of 1.5 months, 3 of my covers got nicked! WAH LAU! I mean, whats with stealing covers also!?

My mistake was not painting the cover with my bike number on it, but I just thought it looked really bad with the painted number plate on it....

anyways, I hope all these thieves wld have their just returns someday.

hmmm i've been parking at the multi story carpark for abt half a year now... always been covering my bike so so problems as yet..

hmmm what bike u intending to buy? sometimes, with a cover on, the potential valdal would somehow guess that it's a harley la... look at the size and all.. confirm kaypoh lift up to cover to see what bike and then... wha.. harley... ok ok scratch here and there, cut the seat open so when he goes to hell for his misdeeds and meets other vandals they can speak like this...

harley vandal : hey why are u here for?

other vandal : valdalism. scratched a few hondas when i was alive. how abt u?

harley vandal : oh i scratched a harley..

other vandal : wow... RESPECT!

ok... what i try my best to do is smile at every1 who makes eye contact with me. so that they would think ok this fella is ok and not stuck up. might be some jealous ppl arnd.. ppl ijn general would not steal a harley because what can u do with it? cannot sell in singapore, cannot go for joyrides, cannot sell in malaysia. stock parts have next to no place in the market because ppl would rather buy brand new parts. selling aftermarket parts would be dangerous because the fella u're selling to might know that the part is from his buddy's bike...

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

I had 2 covers stolen before.

Both are sprayed with my plate number all over, at least 3 or 4 of them.

The latter even had two 12cm tears (which i did, so nobody steals this 'ugly' cover. I was wrong.

Now i lock my covers to the bike.

I find it weird tho, other bikes' covers around my parking lot is untouched.

I have the best signature.

Probably a case of misidentifies or you could have crossfire at somebody’s backside.

i suggested to my town council to install cctvs due to the fact that some petty crime was occuring. neways apart from tat my my fren rides a harley..i tink its his third one..ever since he had his first harley which was a fat boy, he covers it without fail at the end of the day but sadly enuf some dumba@@ a@@h@@@@ mess up his bike...playing around with switches..twisting the side mirrors etc..we can`t be keeping vigil everynite beside our bikes ( my frens n i used to do it ) but what i can suggest is that you guys get to knoe some of the bikers who park within your carpark be it old or young..coz thats what i did..at least they can keep a look out for each others bikes..who knoes if one day you accidently left your cashcard in ur iu unit,it will be another one of ur carpark buddies who will call you up to come and get it from them..No matter what you ride, bikers will always be bikers...the passion never dies..
