Hi guys,

have a prob with my PC. Crashes randomly. Things i have observed are like i can leave it idling for a few days won't crash or hang. can surf forums etc those site without much multimedia everything is gd. This crashing thing happens when i m playing game or on youtube randomly it hangs.

Any suggestions how i could trouble shoot this thing?

OS, RAM, HD, Mainboard, Graphic or sound card or driver conflict?

Btw mine does not gives a blue screen. The present screen just hangs there, the mouse pointer can't move n keyboard doesn't repond if there is any sound being played the last beat is just repeatedly dragged.

It probably could be (1) the graphics card is starting to malfunction, or (2) the processor.

If it's the processor (rare cases), it could have been overheated.

By the way, what's your PC brand and model, and how long have you bought this computer?

No Brand i DIY. Abt slightly over a yr old.

processor in my previous Pc i have encountered that. For tht it jus shuts it doesn't hangs like this. However just to eliminate this possibility i have cleaned my heat sin n the CPU fan as this how i solved my prob the on my previous PC. It was overheating as a result of clogging of dust in the heatsing n the fan over the years.

For graphic card anyway to confirm? btw i dun have a onboard one to try it out.

Try to remove all graphics cards from the computer. Then, go to Youtube, or play the same game that has caused your computer to behave that way.

One more thing: Go >>here

If it still crashes, its the on-board graphics drivers. If reinstalling the (usually called Intel) graphics drivers do not work to resolve it: hardware issue with the graphics drivers.

Hey bro thanks for replying. I dun have a on board graphic card if i take that out can't do anyting. However i have a on board sound so i just took out my soundcard SB live. Guess wat, i m happily ever after, no more crashing.

But have to make do with slightly poorer sound quality with the on board one. So i hope its just the soundcard and no other complications. As i m considering to buy another soundcard, just afraid its starts crashing again with the new soundcard as that might not be the root cause of the prob.

Glad to hear that you found the possible root source of the problem bro.

Let all of us know if the issue comes back and we'll see if we got any ideas to fix it.

Sound cards cause alot of problems. I normally recommend my friends to just use the integrated soundcards. If its by creative, the drivers are horrible. Back in the days when Soundcards were not integrated. most of your BSODs would be sound driver related.

When I got an ASUS netbook I found the "integrated HD sound" was better than the desktop's Creative Audigy 2. I ditched the Audigy from the desktop and used the onboard Realtek HD instead and now my ears are not hurting (and it even sounds better).

The era of dedicated sound cards are over already. Seriously, creative should go back to producing graphics cards. Remember the times when they produced the RIVA, TNT 2 etc?

Can you imagine a Creative Geforce GTX 480 1536MB or a Creative Radeon Ares HD5870X2 4GB? They would give XFX and Powercolor a run for their money.

yea to think abt it since my 486, then my p1 had driver probs thought those were not creative were someother brand. others were fine while i recycled my creative Vibra with my p3 n 4. N now this was also a sound card related probs n was the worst of all i came across. Well since been using my onboard one everything has been perfect clean sheet for the crashes. The sound quality is not that bad still acceptable.
