Considering Singapore assignment : can I import my MV Agusta F4 from the US ?

Hi folks,

First post here,so....hi ! :thumb:

Need some adive from the locals. My company is asking me to relocate from the US to Singapore. While this will mean I will have to reduce my carbon footprint for a while, I still won't be able to do without one of my toys : my beloved MV Agusta.

So question : can I import my 2008 MV F4 312R without being taken to the cleaners by your goverment ? I've owned the bike for over a year and it can easily be converted back to stock. This is a Euro 3 emissions spec bike (though I'm running a race exhaust now - but again - i have all the OEM stuff).

Any advice on the import process welcome. What would be the anticipated price tab ?

The bike is worth about 10,000USD$ in the US now (14K Sing$).

As in any forum around the world : newbies must post pictures, so here we go !

This would be a 2 to 3 year assignment. Next stop unknown, could be anywhere in the world.

Just wondering what's the most beneficial : import my bike from the US or buy a new one in SG. Got a bit of a sticker shock when I saw your prices !

Hmmm... I read somewhere before that someone imported his BMW from UK to Singapore.

Being the helpful person i am, i did a google for u and found back the link:

Relevant authorites u might need to contact for clarification will be:

LTA (Land Transport Authority)

Singapore Customs

Hope this helps! See you on the road soon. :D

that sounds more like the ' during 3 years of purchase for a new bike dun need inspection' kind of information....-.- pls dun anyhow troll.

i believe regardless of registered date of the bike, it can be imported, all it needs is to get cleared by LTA, get a COE, road tax, insur. 7% gst.

also comes with the shipping fees etc etc. since its just a matter of if it will end up worth it to import or not looking at its current value(of bike) and the overall fees required to import it over to SG

p.s. the weblink provided by mmkbad regarding the UK to SG importing his bmw into sg's information will definitely help u out there.

Thanks, this is great information. Will call around and see what a new MV costs, but most probably it will be more beneficial to import it, esp. if the company pays for it.

It's better to import definitely cheaper. I should have brought in my Brutale when I came in. Not sure about the gubermint hoops you have to jump through. The motorcycle tax here is about 30% of the market value.

So the market value of the MV is the new machine price, minus depreciation x 30%. Just a back of the envelop calcuation, assume machine price is $20,000 new (without taxes), and it's worth say 25% less so $15k now. a 30% tax on that will be $4.5k

A used MV in that condition will run over $20,000 SGD here. After u get here, put the exhausts back on.

FYI: It's terrible to ride here, bloody hot and humid, city traffic and no countryside. All the best to you.

actually, HaoKR is right.

Taken from the onemotoring pdf on registration of used foreign m/c.

IMPORTANT

9 Age Limit For Used Vehicles

With effect from 1 September 92, used vehicles which are more than 3 years old are not

allowed to be registered for use in Singapore. The age of a vehicle is reckoned from the

date of its first registration in a foreign country and if it is not possible to ascertain such

date, then from the first day of its year of manufacture. For example if a vehicle was first

registered on 16 September 2002, it would be deemed to be 3 years old on 15 September

2005.
