That was also my concern initially.. from what I can remember from Roy (CKA - KB), EO change is $2x.. full servicing (belt, blah blah blah) is below $200. Tyres depending you want what brand, good ones $3xx? You can call CKA up and ask them, no worries. Nice chaps there.

So envy sia! I still have to wait............ D;

Later take liao let us know how's the first ride!

When is yours coming bro? You have your 2B licence already? :)

Booked my grey 1 with Roy already but TP on 19 Sept.

If pass TP, immediately call him can arrange for paperwork to be done and get bike on same day.

If fail.. still get bike on same day but cannot ride, have to start paying already.. D;

Sounds like a fun day for you! Another month to go for me..

Hello everyone,

I've been checking out this forum for a long while and searching for a suitable bike after my recent 2B TP. No riding experience, but would like a scooter to commute relatively short distances (10km max each journey). No fancy requirements except that it should be

(A) Nimble in handling;

(B) Not too much maintenance issues (cos I know nuts about bikes); &

© Bike is stable for myself and my wife (as pillion)

I shortlisted 3 bikes:

1. Aprilia Mojito

2. LX 150

3. Daelim S3

Can anyone enlighten me as to the differences in these bikes - as for those who have tried at least 2 of these bikes?

Many thanks!! :)

Hi Flac,

I never tried the other two bikes, but from the looks, they are the smaller kind of bikes compared to PCX Honda and S3 etc. I did consider those and Gilera Runner, but the higher cost and smaller body left me wondering if it's stable enough, esp the LX150. Eventually I decided on the S3 coz of the bigger size, its more advanced technology (pros and cons) and I believe for pillon riding, will feel safer. Many bros here say that servicing is a breeze at CKA reinforces the whole decision. Like you, I wanted something easy in maintenance, comfortable for my pillion. Handling wise, I have nothing to comment. :)

Hi bro Adzz,

Thanks for the reply!! Just realised that you're a driver too. I'm one as well, so I suppose stability is more important for both driver and pillion. A bit fickle minded here, cos the Sym GTS 200 and Joyride are both similar except for the HP. I'm more after aesthetics, so S3 fits my bill more. Will go shop around tmr.

May I know

- how much did you get for the S3 in all?

- Was it difficult carrying a pillion going uphill? (or even up carparks for that matter?)

8.8k, with the bundles that WarForGe mentioned in the previous post. :) But now the box may not be bundled, last that I heard, but you have to check with them for the final detail. A call will do fine I guess? :)

I haven't try pillon anyone yet as my lost skill for 3 years has yet to return. Haha. I won't want to buang the bike with my pillion. :p

I suggest if you're going for Mojito but want to maintain low cost, drop the idea.

When I was researching about insurance, I saw somewhere that the insurance company charges sky high for Mojito, just because it's Aprilla.

Can't be very sure about it but if you look at other things like parts, it should cost more to replace, since it's Aprilla and not your usual Yamaha/Honda. (I could be wrong too..)

If you like the retro looks and don't wish to go Vespa route, take a look at Yamaha Fino.

Similiar class as Mojito, not that pretty, but I won't dare to say much about pillion + up slope cause it's only 115cc, although it's pretty damn lightweight.

S3 would be one of a kind on the road, not like everywhere you see also GTS200, Joyride or Runner (abit like Comfort cab already).

End of the day, the bikes can have fantastic reviews and such but the most important part will be you and your wife, sitting on the actual bike and liking it.

I brought my wife down and we both felt very comfortable with the bike, which is why I paid deposit there and then to book the bike before I even pass my TP test.

**Repeating Roy's advise on bike purchase: "Ask them what's included in the price they quoted you for the bike. Don't rush into payment and later realise that you have to top up this and that before you can ride it out of the shop! Until that stage, you LPPL cannot do anything already, even if the total costed way more than anybody had quoted you before, unless you want to say bye bye to the deposit."

Oh.. forgot to add 1 more thing..

Mojito, Fino, LX150, Runner, etc; you have a lot of options to aesthetically pimp your ride in future. Of course, this would mean more future cost.

For S3, GTS200, etc; there's nothing much you can aesthetically pimp on, except box, grip, probably paint job and such only. It's one of the reasons I chosen S3 also, as I know I will itchy itchy want to add-on things every now and then, which will cost hell lot more in future.

I choose S3, coz it looks like a T Max. LOL. My friend has one. Similar size, preparing for the future. Hehe. The S3 needs not much pimping. I just want a reliable ride, and so far for 5 days, it's working good. Only complaint is for 60kmh to 80kmh really takes a while to reach, also becoz I'm running in so maintaining around 7k-7.2k rpm max. Looks like 2 more weeks to my 1st servicing, a change of EO. No complains so far.

Roy is friendly which makes me assured for a noob rider. And when I purchased the bike, nothing was mentioned about the box, so called up, and got one. Supposed to be in I guess. But when I collected that day, Roy did mention no more box for those purchasing in future at least for a month. I could be wrong. But yea, ask and confirm everything before making payment and make sure it's written on the invoice. Then no disputes later on. I learnt the hard way with the car purchase. LPPL really.

It's now 1 year warranty instead of 2 years, and no more test ride at CKA. A bit noisy, but bearable for me. I'm probably ready for pillon riding, getting a Shoei helmet. :)

This is what happen, Bro. While on my way to top up petrol after taking the bike out from TG, the orange CHECK light appeared. Thereafter while riding slowly at a traffic junction the engine just died suddenly. I start the bike and the Orange CHECK light appeared again. I headed straight to TG to have it check. At TG, they off the switch and restart again, the orange light disappear, and they told me its normal because this bike is fully electronic. Since this is my first scooter, i take it as they know better than me. Day after day i rode the bike, the Orange CHECK keeps on appearing. I noticed when im moving slowly towards a junction or trying to squeeze in between cars at slow speed, the orange CHECK light will appear and the engine will die of suddenly. Many times when this happen, I was caught in between vehicles or infront of a vehicle and the traffic light is green. Yes indeed, i receive alot of honking from the vehicle behind. There was 01 time when a rider followed me very closely and my bike engine died. Not aware that he was behind me, I pulled the brake to re-start the bike and thats when I saw he swerved his bike to my right and scolded me for jamming the brake. Well I guess, hes not aware that Im re starting my bike. So....I make my way back to TG and complaint about the performance of the bike and they started troubleshooting the problem. First they change the CDI of the bike, than spark plug, than battery......all of it was in vain. The orange CHECK light still appears and the engine will suddenly die when im moving slowly. Here the best part, one mrning while I was riding the bike to work, along SLE, the grey metal piece that was attached to the end of the exhaust pipe came off and broke. There were 4 screws attached to it and theyre all gone. Hahaha, I wonder what else will drop from this S3 bike. Afraid that the tyre will came off, instead of going to work, I went straight to TG to report the issue to them. the funny thing is that they told me, i could have cornered the bike so low that it hit the metal piece from the exhaust and broke it, hahahahahaha. I ended up not wanting to argue any further, and just accept the fact that this bike sucks big time. I reported the issue of the bike dying suddenly again to the mechanic and they told me that this bike needs to be plug in to a computer to scan for the problem and at TG they dont have such computer. They told me to make my way to JE coz they have the computer there. And so I make my way there. At JE, they plug in the computer to the bike and detected this "Camshaft Position Sensor" fault. Not knowing what is that they refer to their user manuals. I noticed they could not find the answer to the problem, and they decide to reset the bike settings. So everything is good, they told me, and no more problem. Very excited that the bike is finally cured, i immediately leaves the shop. Upon reaching the first junction, as i was moving slowly, the engine dies again and the orange CHECK light appear, WTF. I make a U-Turn, and headed back to the shop and showed them the orange CHECK light. They re-start the bike and try it themselve, at only 10 meters the bike died again. This time they told me, that the repair will have to take a few days because they have to check everything. Well it makes me wonder, as a consumer, what is my Legal right, when faced with this problem? I have asked them to replace me with a new bike but they told me its not possible. So what is possible? My job requires me to travel all around Singapore, I need my bike to accomplish that. This is not a 2nd hand purchase, its a Brand New bike. Any lawyers or wannabe lawyers, out there who care to shed some lights?

jeez. irresponsible shops.

Thanks bro Adzz and WarForGe. I just went to see S3 today at KK with my wife. Saw other bikes but seems like S3 is the only one we like very much.

And was quoted the following:

- 8.8k

- free top-box

- 1 year warranty

- no free EO, helmets, etc

Very gian, but I think i can wait a while and ask their offers again if it changes.

I think their offer changed due to the recent COE pricing.

When I booked my S3, the COE was $1859 vs what you get now is $2081.

I think the difference were offset by removing some freebies.

Think the difference is not that much. Mine also no free EO, dun think they give last time too. The only things missing are bike cover and raincoat and helmet, which you can do without.

After using the stock for few days, I bought myself a better helmet and a better raincoat cover. Maybe the bike cover is the only thing I will keep. Hehe...

Just bought a second-hand S3.

Like its stability and handling.

Have 2 questions and hope someone can help here :-

1) Initial pickup is rough - I am not sure if the RPM idling is too high (one point something close to two)

2) What is the tyre pressure for the front and back ?

Thank you!

Posted

Hi there. My idle RPM is about 1.x too. I dunno if it's normal, but it's like that since day 1, so I didn't really think much. The pickup starts from about 3.5k rpm, and to move comfortably, around 5k-6k. 7k rpm is ideal, but probably after my run in.

Tyre pressure recommended by CKA is 200 front/ 220 rear (240 if pillon a lot).

I have been enjoying riding this bike....no regrets.

Not at all. This is my first bike after 3 years of getting my 2B. Been enjoying as the day passes as I get more confident with riding. Now planning to get a 2A. My only complain is the lag when accelerating from rest. Maybe after run-in if I throttle till 7k at the start, hopefully, it's ok after a run-in.

I have also asked the shop about this. They said the initial acceleration of the bike is like that - probably the bike is heavy. Acceleration from

50km/h to 100km/h is ok and I am quite satisfied with that. In future, I might want to upgrade to Daelim S3 250 cos I like this model.

Hope so, then there will be more options for 2A bikes. I like the keyless system. really useful. Tried a T-Max yesterday. The throttle response is unbelievably smooth.
