Agree not all people want to speak English in France. But if you try it, you'll find out that actually people do speak and understand it, but just don't like/want to speak anything else but French. If you try starting the conversation with a broken and go to English then, you'll get them to use their broken english - fun stuff.

On another hand, A LOT of Parisians have a good English and can give you directions, info and recommendations in English. Just a bit of patience and smile to break the ice, say where you're from blablabla and you'll get what you need.

I don't recommend to anyone not familiar with Paris to ride or drive in the city. Parking and traffic can be hellish. Parking especially, when you don't know where you're going or how things work. You're better off with public transport in the city.

Renting a bike to ride outside of Paris is a far better plan. I'm not sure why someone said everything is concentric, that's just for Paris "expressway", outside of it, roads stretch out "normally". Inside Paris, if you stick to big avenues you should be able to go to places without too much trouble.

Instead of riding a motorbike in Paris, I suggest the rental of a bicycle. Paris on a bicycle is a very nice experience :)

While on a French tour I remebered my guide telling us that the French are reluctant to use english even when they knew some. So Try out with broken french or greetings to make them happy followed by asking if they spoke english. My guide jokingly told us that French and English had a seven year war and lost many colonies after that, so they are pretty much Anti-English. :)

I am going to Paris on May 2011 and i would like to ask about renting a motorbike there.

Can Singapore license be used there? What to expect over there? Where to buy good stuff over there?

And does anyone have GPS map for europe? I am currently using a Garmin Nuvi 500...

Thank you for all the help...
