Hi all, I'm curious to know how do they actually do spark plug gapping. As far as I know most workshops will normally fixed the spark plug onto your engine once it is taken out of it's box. They will not even bother to gap for you (or at least it applies to the ones that I go to). I understand that gapping is actually quite important for your engine performance and also enhance the life span of the plug. I'm not ready to do it by myself but you can never learn to little things they say. So would like to know how it is done the correct way. Anyone?

BTW. Wonder shops like FJT does them...

That's really old school technique.

First, do you have the precision tool of the exact measurement of the gap requirement for your bike ? Cars in the 70's, come with such a tool. Part of the maintenance was to remove the plugs, slot the gapping tool in, and use a hammer to tap, until there is no more clearance.

Second, plugs a cheap. You want the mechanic to do gapping, how much can he charge. He would probably make $1 by changing new plugs.

Third, not necessary to do gapping on new generation plugs such as those plugs with pointed tip, or multi-legs.

Now, when the box states 0.8, it's 0.8, no more no less.

Its very easy to do, i just use a feeler gauge, no money for fancy gapping tools mar

Look at ur bike manual to check gap clearance, usually stated in a range ie; 0.8-0.9mm. Do not exceed this gap clearance otherwise ur coil can go kaput .

Nowadays, most plugs comes pre-gapped out of the box, but its always better to check it before u plug it in.

went to autobacs yesterday at Ubi.

they only serving car wash and maintenance.

I think only available at Bt.Batok which is pretty far from my place, Hougang.

anyway i found it at ebay. Someone selling it online at $13.90

this spark plug gap feeler gauge is very useful if you want to DIY.

once you remove the plug and clean the tip, its recommended to measure the gap to required spec.
