Can go all the way up to russia on a r1200gsa, and make Long Way Up, no?

If I was making that trip..definitely a 1200! Would be a great ride, maybe we should mention to Charlie and Ewen. Anyone know if the rules have changed in China yet? Used to be you could not take your bike in.

...too many to list

read many reviews of it.to me the GS800 is more of a bigger GS650/Dakar than a smaller GS1200. reason being it's meant to be more offroad-able,possess good weight-to-power ratio, has a narrow seat and a 21" front wheel. And the chief issue is that it has a parrallel twin engine and is chain driven. Why can't bmw come out with a 800cc Boxer GS? the flat-twin engine is quintissentially GS. when mentioning parrallel twin,1 alternativescome to my mind: yamaha TDM900.very able and much cheaper.another machine is the good-times-roll Kawasaki Versys.

hi there.., i m new to BMW bike... would like to seek some advice n reviews on R1100RT....

Read from overseas reviews tat, its handling, braking, performance, FC efficiency and compartment are great.

But have some electrical problems and high maintainance costs.

Pls advice me on the maintainence costs. N if any of u svc ur bike elsewhere beside PML.

tks!

Hi Fengdrew,

Great handling, brakes and FC are true.

I believe that you maintain a BMW bike by replacing parts, not repairing parts. The same is perhaps true for all the other makes.

Other than trouble shooting the Fuel management system which requires a diagnostic computer, dyno machine and exhaust gas analyser, other maintenance work can be performed by any competent mechanic.

Hi Phang,

I was wondering if the R1100S 17inch rear will fit the R1100R?

any idea?

thanks.

I don't think the 3 spokes rear wheel of the R1100R is interchangeable with the 5 spokes rear wheel of R1100S, at least without MAJOR modification.

One obvious thing is the difference in mounting of the rear brake disc.

Not yet, I will pick up my friend and the wheel at Changi Airport this coming Wednesday. hehe

Both R1100S and R1150R wheel is 17" only different in width. the "S" rim is 5.5" and the "R" rim is 5"

what are good windscreens for the 1100 or 1150 roadsters?

The R850R / R1100R and the R1150R have different screens. For stock screens, the R1100R has a large screen while the R1150R has 3 types: Speedster, Sport and Touring screens. There are aftermarket manufacturers like Givi, MRA, Cee Baileys, Vario, Wunderlich, etc for screens for these bikes. Be careful, some of these screens uses the OEM mounts while other have their own.

Your question: "Good" windscreen is hard to define because I find that windscreens are a very subjective thing. Looks, utility, budget etc are various factors that a rider may consider when choosing a screen. I love the "speedster" screen for looks (and some functionality), but on the NSH it is inadequate, .... fortunately I am a slow one. :p

You need a cup type oil filter wrench to remove/install the original BMW oil filter. As the filter is flush with the oil sump, only cup type oil filter wrench will work.

Original BMW oil filter wrench part#114650.

BMW/Audi/VW cars also using the same oil filter wrench.

I use after market oil filter wrench, measurement is 14 flutes X 74mm across the flat. You can also bring along your oil filter to the shop to match when you buy the wrench.
