damn nice Dakar scheme but sad no more PD race for the GS :(

No more? REALLY!

So we wont be seeing GSPD model in future.

BMW surrendered?

The 4 valves is not as good as the 2valves?

The Telelever dont work? Even the HP2 & their last R900RR using inverted.

Injection dont work as well? R900RR using carb.

Then why consumers are getting those stuffs tt dont work on PD race?

Hope BMW dont just give up challenging the PD, at least release a stock GS1200 for e PD race, e "discarded" 2 valves & the F650GS ever claimed e checker flag. Never mind if it dont smell the checker flag, at least complete the race to prove to the consumers that their money spent are just worthwhile.

Really hope to hear some good news fm BMW.

i think the new rule for 2 cylinder bikes is max 400c.c. in capacity only. No more good show to see KTM pitting up against BMW as with the previous races.

Yes indeed. And after last year's incidents, the event will become even more sterilized.....

So have we taken the spirit out of racing? :giddy: To much restriction in the name of safety? Is racing suppose to be safe? Have the recent splash of new regulations actually made racing safer or are they actually setting themselves up to more danger? Most watchers think its the later..........

But the organisers hands are tied too........ They need to be percieved to be doing something to make the sport safer but yet to keep the level of entertainment up....... Like the F1 single tire rule....... whats that suppose to do? Slow them down? F1 drivers are not paid to slow down....... and after 20 laps, they are basically racing on carcasses....and how safe is that?

Might as well do it virtually......

I'm wondering too, is 400c.c. enough to overcome all those big sand dunes? I know motorcrosser can do it, but with the amount of fuel to be carriedthe bike would be much heavier....Hmmm.....maybe Honda might be intrested to revamp their JDM Transalp 400 model to take part, good news for Transalp lover then!

I came across this excellent article at :

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/17august05_safer800cc.htm

Will 800cc Really be Safer

By Dirck Edge

In 2007, when the MotoGP rules require engine capacity to fall from the current 990cc to 800cc, will this really make the bikes slower? Will it really make MotoGP racing safer?

Currently, there are two basic components that make a great MotoGP engine. These are power and power delivery. A powerful bike is nothing unless it delivers that power in a way that is usable by the racer. The MotoGP manufacturers spend as much, or more, time developing a smooth, usable power delivery as they do developing peak horsepower.

When the allowable engine capacity drops to 800cc in 2007, the power race will start over again in MotoGP. As they did with the 990cc engines, manufacturers will struggle to balance peak horsepower with usable delivery, and some of the manufacturers will undoubtedly struggle with peaky, dangerous powerbands early on (just as they did with 990cc). This time, however, this struggle will be even more difficult.

Smaller pistons and higher rev ceilings, could well make the power delivery of these new bikes very violent. If one manufacturer is able to achieve a very high peak horsepower, and conquer the power delivery problem, other manufacturers will do everything they can to achieve competitive horsepower, but this may come at the expense of smooth powerbands, at first. A high revving, peaky engine will be extremely difficult to control. Sort of like a 500cc two-stroke. Remember those?

For those of you sitting at home thinking 800cc bikes will definitely be slower, think about this. There are Japanese engineers burning the midnight oil with one goal in mind. That is, build a somewhat smaller (roughly 20% smaller) higher revving MotoGP engine that makes just as much power as the current bikes do. They have plenty of money and have had roughly two years to make it happen. If one of those manufacturers hits the ground running in 2007, with the right engine package, the performance differential between the top tier of MotoGP and everyone else will be significantly greater than it is today, and the other manufacturers will be desperate to catch up. The fact that tires will be less of a limiting factor at 800cc will only make the engine component that much more important.

I like the last sentence.

If this goes on, next time we will be purchasing champion bikes online, race with each other in the SG Forum, and the so-call champion bike may be ridden by some teenage who never even seen a real bike before. License, road tax, insurance, petrol and etc... where got time.

And touring, no problem, as we will be able to tour online too, next time, I will chio people to ride in Alaska, Just log on... no need touring gears and pictures can be downloaded.

Do you carry your worries home with you? If so, hope

this story will change your view. Enjoy!

The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse

had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire

made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit,

and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start.

While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On

arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked

toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree,

touching tips of the branches with both hands. When

opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation.

His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his

two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and

my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I

had seen him do earlier. Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied.

"I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's

for sure, troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and

the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night

when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again."

"Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning

to pick 'em up, there ain't nearly as many as I remember

hanging up the night before."

Increase in speed limits for 27 road sections in northeast from Sep 1

SINGAPORE : The speed limits for 27 road sections in north-eastern Singapore will be raised from September 1.

They are in the Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Buangkok, Punggol, Sengkang, Upper Paya Lebar and Kaki Bukit areas.

The current speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour will be raised to 60 or 70 kilometres per hour.

This is the second phase of a nationwide speed limit review which started in April this year.

The first phase saw changes in the speed limits for 16 stretches of roads in Woodlands, Sembawang and Yishun from June 1.

The review is expected to be completed by December.

The Police and the Land Transport Authority cautioned motorists that while the speed limits have been raised, they should continue to exercise their judgement to ensure their safety and that of other road users. - CNA/de
