--low FC.

--touring inclined: got panniers included! (I'm a panniers fan)

Ya, paiseh, I'm such a noob, just found out more about the Viffer on VFRworld. Its a bike with real tradition and reputation... Hey, thats something it shares with my katana. :cheeky:

but i have to admit, the unique v4 engine would be gruntier than the I4s eh?

I've seen the f800st at PML, personally i think the panniers are very practical as they are expandable with integrated fabric linings (kinda cool actually). But compared to the usual hard angular panniers, their bulbous shape looks kinda odd, i find it refreshing from the usual panniers we see on the road though. Some have said that its fugly, but somehow to me, it doesnt spoil the overall looks when mounted.

However I know givi does produce specialised f800 tubular racks to fit givi panniers, hmm...

But i think there's one sure thing that the f800st can beat the viffer hands down, and its the FC: the freaking bm bike can go up to 29km/l with normal riding! 50mpg, as they claim in some US bike forums.

Hmm.. handling wise, i think a model that has been proven in the US stuntwars would be of relatively high standard ba.

ok, I really got to try out a viffer myself one of these days.

Honda wins? Ya, u cant beat the Honda if the priorities are budget, reliability and gearing smoothness (as testified by many experienced riders and mechs).

But somehow on the apparent competition between the 2 bikes (and their brand), I realised that we cant always do a flat comparison between the Japanese bikes and the Continental Euro bikes. The basis of their technology is very different from each other even though they are meant to produce similar (or even identical) objective.

E.g. I just realised that the although factors such as FC can be directly compared, we cant just look at it as an isolated point of comparison. The F800ST may have lower FC than the VFR, but it is at the cost of raw power that the latter can churn out more.

OTOH, F800ST may lack the raw top end power, but its parallel twin rotax engine allows it (theoretically) to kick the VFR during pickup, 86NM at 5800rpm as compared to the latter's 80NM at 8750rpm. Totally different performance traits, the 2.

I've heard too much about the viffer, but neber had the chance to actually try it, thats y i am itching to do so (Currently no kakis who owes one too).

But on the upside, it seems like the f800ST can be tested at PML.

I guess I must really think about how I intend to fully utilise the bike, and decide from there which bike to choose in order to fit my own purposes (and of course whether it can fit into my budgeting too).

If I can afford the premium and exclusivity, and desire them, Why should I choose to get anything that any man off the street can easily afford (wah piang, i'm sounding so materialistic).

Sounds so easy hor, but knn as riders, sometimes when the butt itches U can never scratch it away with rationality.

but ya anyway, if I decide to get a recognisably premium Sports Touring bike, I will head straight to the BMW showroom!

Wow, lots of words... good comparison... just need to stretch yr budget a little, go with what you want and not necessary the best in town...

many have stretch their budget a little to get the beemer and they live happily ever after. don't believe ... that's fairy tale...

Compare no more, just head down to PML and sign the dotted line... Stev, where's my commission... kekeke...

Oops, hehe, now on retrospectively rereading my comments I think I was blathering blindly when I wrote it this afternoon, some things I said dun really make sense. Aiyah, too bad no edit function liao.

Anyway, what i had meant to say was,

A) jap bikes & euro bikes cannot directly compare which is better just by looking at the stats.

B) Not only I should prioritise the qualities i desire in a bike and choose the best amongst a selection which best fits that profile of my ideal bike, I should also make my choice on account of my budgeting.

C) BMW bikes are inarguably premium touring bikes with prestige.

XiaoMing U are right, what u said about stretching one's budget is what I meant when I said that "sometimes when the butt itches U can never scratch it away with rationality". It just means that my point B above, although makes good sense, is damn difficult to obey.

That's the human condition lah, our choices we make are often always a struggle between our logical sensibilities and our irrational desires.

Something to contribute to my irrational side,

Facking Hel!! did u see what this guy can do with that f800!!??

Pure touring? RT is a great option. Someone selling his in the Garage sales with lots of accessories. Or GS if u are more into the bash-in, go-anywhere type.

Seems to me that BMWs almost all can go the distance in comfort.

Phoar! The bike with Hydraulic mainstands!

The LT is the Limo of BMW bikes, and all I know is that its comfort n luxury level rivals that of Honda's GL. But just looking at the online pics alone, I personally prefer the curves of the LT over the techno lines of the GL.

I dun think i've ever seen one on SG roads, as compared to the more frequently spotted GL. Good for you if you can find LTs in SG cos they are sure very rare ard here. Good luck if you are searching for one.

Err.. I dun mean that there are absolutely no LT in SG, just that i have not seen one myself on the road so far. The SG LTs might be spending all their time cruising across the borders, haha.

Prices of 2nd hand GL? I have absolutely no idea dude, sorry. There's GL1200, GL1500 and GL1800 and even the Honda Valkyrie, at different years of manufacture too.

I saw a few LT's at the PML workshop the last time I was there, so there are LT's in SG but i think its quite rare.

There is a rare R1200CL on sale, not sure if its been sold though.. check this out:

Just took over a '01 R1100RT 2 weeks ago. Would like to check with fellow Beemer owners here regarding servicing of the bike. Besides PML, where else is good for normal maintenance/servicing?

Previous owner did his servicing at Looi's. Also heard about Combine and Stamford. Any experience to share?

Thanks. :)
