The years thunder by.

The drams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience.

Before we know it, the tomb is sealed.

Where, then, lies the answer?

In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?

Thanks bogster and coolcat. i've test ride e 2007 R 1200 GS. the looks and feeling is great! very different from 1100 and 1150. i regret test riden it cos it made me wanted it even More. hehehe.btw, read the forums and no big problem so far except for the brakes and the main stand (e U shape type).

e clutch plate(wear n tear) and the abs (dun know if tis cause by wear n tear)fears me most as it cost a bomb, 1.8k and 2.8k respectively if down.

The R1200Gs is so cool, plus the weight savings (on paper at least). I read somewhere that initially there were electrical teething problems but I am sure that it has been sorted out by now.

Looks like I will be keeping my beast, since it is my first Class 2 bike and I am having the Ohlins serviced.

If you are plonking down for a second-hand bike, consider the F800GS? seems like good reviews all round.

Cheers

Ah Stamford Motors. Shall reserve comments here. What I can share is that he's often gone overseas as he has some business in several countries. Nice chap tho' just need a lil pushin. You'll get your bike back.

Stamford motor!!!  I sent my 650gs for water pump seal leak and radiator leak.... it takes nearly 10mths. I chased him , visit his shop few times per week try to befriend him and I had to do most of the work MYSELF.. ie change radiator, flush the engine....at the end.. he told me he changed the pump seal, guess wat? after 1 or 2 days of riding, my engine oil became milky.. he didnt change the bloody seal  . I gave up and send my bike to 123 motor, it was done in 3 days.

thats my experience with stamford motor.... but alex is a nice guy, just not a very efficient mech.

I know Alex. I used to yell at him, believe me, I did. Loads - 155mm ammo calibre some more. Then I realised, Alex does not see his mechanic work as necessary to his livelihood, so no point treating him like any other mech. The man is competent and efficient when he wants to be, but he is, well, eccentric (like most competent mechs, it seems). Nice guy, competent, granted, but seriously eccentric. Getting upset will not solve the problem. Trust me on this one.

Alex is now in Singapore, pay him a visit between 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Talk to him nicely but firmly, and consider moving your bike out if you feel that he cannot or won't deliver. And do it, for your own sake. :)

Alex is kind enough to let me use his shop to do my own work on my bikes. He provides tools and guidance, I provide humour, company and coffee; it works out for both of us. Patience and a sense of humour is the key with Alex. I've got plenty, it seems. And cos' of that, I am now a happier person. :thumb:

Sorry for the rambling; I know what you are going through. I won't pretend to defend or condemn him, just stating how I see things. The man just don't care, so either adapt or go elsewhere where you can be happier. Hope things work out for ya.

cheers

Alex is a nice guy but he has his way of doing biz, repairing may not his priority or "possible" he is just hoping that owner bo chap and 1 fine day to inform him to scrap it, then he will export the bike to other country and earn a profit out of it.

I had very bad experience there, parked mine there for 3 months, all spares are ready within one week and nothing has been done, my bike just parked nicely in one corner, more frustrating thing is that he lost some parts I passed to him and when I demand them back, he told me that he misplace them and will return to me when he finds it - ok, that's more than one year ago and I cannot remember what he owes me now. Hahaha, it's okay, I don't need them anyway.

Todate, I am stilll holding some spares that I bought as requested from him and other mech confirm the spares are not necessary to replace and my bike runs well without replacement. But... diff mech has diff way of doing thing, may be Alex is more professional and think replacement is needed which I shall not argue here, I respect and has full trust for the mech that I contracted.

His charges may be low but if you don't know his way of doing biz and don't enjoy free parking there, then I will suggest to go somewhere else. Many mech in Singapore can repair this simple bike.

I would add, Alex gives priority to (a) customers who had been with him for a long time (even they suffer too) (b) riders with only one bike.

This guy is actually a very interesting character, once you have decided not to kill him. :)

Cheers

alex does a great job, if and when he wants to. i have gone thru similar experiences as cat as well and i suppose, some sort of understanding has reached between alex and me.

as many has mentioned, sorting out bikes is not his priority.

if you really want to ride, send it somewhere else, alan is good but charges a premium, the flip side is the bike gets sorted quick. on the other hand, send the machine to PML. guarantee come out quick but you pay.

there has been an instance where a bike has been stuck there for 2 months to change a battery and 2 weeks to change tyres but i have also experienced a turnaround of 24hours to repair a leaking cylinder with a full valve clearance and tuning done.

Ah Alex, great guy in my opinion. I have serviced my VFR there since i took it over. I am a complete noob when it comes to bikes but he has always done his best to keep my bike in top condition. he did valve clearance, tensioner replacement and even service my ohlins shock. All in less than a week. I just call him to make appointment at 64832198 so it won't clash with other jobs or his travel schedule.

don't know why he gives me such good treatment but I am using his special castrol oil that he imports and i got a feeling that gives me some leverage.
